I thought Bush was in a Florida classroom on 9/11???????

Scott McClellan said the president was in the underground bunker for a "very short amount of time." He said he believed it was the first time Bush was taken to the shelter since the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks?????????

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Bush was hustled into an underground shelter on Wednesday amid fears an aircraft had entered the restricted airspace around the White House, officials said. The Secret Service determined minutes later that it was a false alarm.

Vice President Dick Cheney also was moved to a secure location as heavily armed Secret Service agents cleared the area in front of the presidential mansion.

White House spokesman Scott McClellan said the president was in the underground bunker for a "very short amount of time." He said he believed it was the first time Bush was taken to the shelter since the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

"There were some precautionary measures that were taken. It was quickly learned that it was a false alarm and that all was clear in a very short amount of time," McClellan said. "Everything is fine."

McClellan said the Secret Service was still investigating the cause of the false alarm. "They're looking into exactly what it was," he added.

On heightened alert after the Sept. 11 airplane attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, the White House has had several similar false alarms involving aircraft.

September 11th 2001 was a very long day.

He was in a classroom when the attacks happened but there would have been another 23 1/2 hours for him to be either in a bunker or onboard Air Force One!

From what I remember hearing.... He was taken to a safe haven in case he was targeted, being a leader of such a large country I think this would be pretty normal....

Also so that he could make important choices safely

Yeah i would say that it wasn't accurate at all.

As far as McClellen's comments go I interpreted what he said as Bush using the bunker at some point during the whole ordeal. He didn't specifically say that he was in a bunker at the time of the attack. I'm sure once he got back to the White House he slept down in the bunker that's all.

He was in a Florida classroom at the time of the attack, but was flown to an underground bunker soon afterward. If memory serves, this was given quite a bit of media coverage, and in fact, he took some criticism for 'hiding' there, as some put it, for a brief time following the attack.

Apres-Goat story he stepped on Airforce 1 - strange that it might have been targetted tho' they knew it wasn't, and scurried to bunkers while the turn out of the plot was assessed and he did nothing. Nothing he could do until informed how to proceed from the results

noone remembers this being said all over the news of him being rushed to a bunker right after the attacks? i sure do.

I remember he wanted Air Force One to return to DC, but instead he was taken to a base somewhere in the south, Arkansass or Louisianna maybe? He filmed a speach to the public there then got on AF1 and went back to DC, then to the bunker.

Documented evidence shows that Warren Buffet, the second richest man in the world, a civilian, was at the base earlier in the day for a supposed charity event that was scheduled prior to Sept. 11. It is probable that he and many of his invited guests were still there when President Bush arrived later in the day.

Anne Tatlock, CEO of Fiduciary Trust Co. International, was invited to that event and was en route to the base at the time the first attack took place on the first tower of the World Trade Center. She arrived at the base in time to see the second plane hit the second tower precisely where her office complex is located in that tower.

Why was President Bush flown to this base? Why was Warren Buffet there prior to the attack? Why was the very person who manages the office that took a direct hit from the second plane also there -- having been en route at the time the attacks commenced? Why was she escorted from her plane by military personnel to a room with a television where she then viewed the second plane smash into her office

Bush also claimed he watched the first plane hit the WTC on tv on 9/11, during one of his "town meeting" speeches... which was impossible because the tape of that didn't come out til three days after 9/11.

Bush had no reason whatsoever to be in a bunker on 9/11.

That's where it was, Omaha. He went to that base because it had a large, underground media production center. I saw a special about it on the 1st anniversary of 9/11. The media center was put there under the 'continuance of government' stuff during the cold war. Bush taped the speech and it was played later, after he left the base.

I SERIOUSLY doubt Warren Buffet was still at that base when Bush was there, if he was there at all. I work as a civillian defense contractor on a Navy facility. All the civillians and most of the Navy were evacutated shortly after the attacks and the base was closed for three days. Only a handful of Navy personnel stayed behind, mainly to operate our radars to help with ATC for all the fighters that were scrambled.

But the US was under attack, where else is Buffet going to want to go?

I too can't believe that people don't remember this from 9/11 and the aftermath. It was heavily reported for a long time that Bush was flown after the initial attacks to a base in Omaha, where he went in an underground bunker and made his phone calls and decisions for the moment.

When he returned to the White House later that day, the Secret Service requested that Bush and the First Lady sleep in the underground bunker. Bush flatly refused, and slept in his regular bedroom. They were awoken once that night by a Secret Service agent who drug the President and First Lady to the underground bunker when it was believed that a plane was heading for the White House. Obviously it was later determined to be a false alarm.

All of this was reported extensively. I am glad that extra measures were taken to protect our President. I think its rediculous that anyone would question Bush being placed in a bunker temporarily on 9/11. The full spectrum of the attacks was not known at that time, and a "decapitation strike" could have very well been part of al Qaida's plot that day. It was safe and smart for them to assume that, and to take every reasonable precaution to protect the leader of this nation and the free world. Considering with today's technology, the President could run the country out of my kitchen if he wanted to, it doesn't bother me if he's in a bunker calling the shots from there or going down a water slide in Orlando.

I cannot overemphasize the importance of protecting our President, no matter who it may be, at all times.

its the Secret Service responsibility to protect the POTUS no mater even if the President refuses to go to a bunker. thats not how it works and the Commander in Chief who is the most powerful man in the world cant go against the Secret Service.

it must have been W's double in FLA ! He must have been in NY with the remote control flying the plane/missile into the towers.....

As i said before Bush and his cronies were in NO DANGER during 9/11.
