I think people are looking past this history of Hollywood. Sure the industry has somewhat evolved over the years, however this form of ignorance (not racism) is still prevelant in Hollywood.

Anyway, if you want to see a good movie about Blackface comedy and the the ignorance of early hollywood, then I would suggest renting Spike Lee's Bamboozled. It addresses some problematic structure of Blackface comedy in the past as well as modern day. Actually, this cover addresses the problem with the portryal of blacks (as well as other races) in early hollywood. Anything could pass.

I dont think it is more of an argument of the number of depictions of so called "black"Americans that one might see on ANY major news broadcast.

I think it is the choice of representation that hollywood chooses to represent Blacks that most "blacks" resent , as oppsed to the amount of media coverage they actually receive.

Believe it or not but there are black hip hop groups out therer talking about the NWO, the Illuminati, the Rockerfellars, kennedys, etc. But the fact of the matter is they will not get the record deals that NIGGERS like Ice cube will get.

Check out black moon, Del the phunky homosapien, and others, and you might be surprised to find that NOT ALL BLACKS are mesmorized, and seduced by this materialistic culture. There are many blacks who are more than aware of the new world order. Do you think they are getting any kind of record contracts? No the "Niggas" which white America like to live soo vicariously through are the one who get the record deals.

It's not a black thing, its not a white thing.
They will sell each other out for money, just like blacks will.....

Well said ..I agree..its about money .what ever will sell to make a profit. I have said this over several times on ATS. These people are not loyal to a people. or nation..but to their profits. This means they will sell if necessary the very soul of a people if it means profit. People need to catch on. Yes it's is not about colour per se..the favorite colour of these people is Green.

Racism is a lot like advertising. If you don't buy it, it goes away. The problem is people of all colors are still buying it.
So who's really the bad guy, the seller or the buyer? I say both.

Who is the buyer? A large portion of the population, regardless of color.

Who is the seller? You name it. From Hollywood to Washington DC. If it's not stuffy old white people with too many preconcieved notions then it's gangster rap. If it's not gangster rap it's Jesse Jackson. There's a lot of money and power to be had on both sides by building a base, and you build a base by creating an identity for the people you want to unite under you.

Don't buy it and it can't touch you. I'm white- so I can't be cool right- I can't dress certain ways, talk certain ways, or act certain ways. To hell with that. Somebody laughed at me once for wearing lugz ("thugz" as he called them)- well to hell with him. They look good.
If I was black, same deal- that wouldn't mean I couldn't be intelligent or professional or be familiar with white people- I'd just do it anyway, and if somebody didn't like it I'd tell them to take a walk and I'd stick with people who didn't care.

Racism as a systematic and pro-active discrimination against minorities must be reacted to. If a man gets fired or attacked etc because of his color, you can't ignore it. If it's just stereotyping though- ignoring it is exactly the way to defeat it.

I'm trying to figure out just what you all are watching that is making you feel that blacks are being dehumanized. Obviously I'm not watching the same shows and movies you are, either that or I just have a very different perception.

If blacks really are dehumanized in movies and such, why is it that they would have their own channel (BET) to promote these movies? Isn't that just encouraging the alleged dehumanization?

EVERY race and culture is dehumanized by the media. There are shady characters of every color. If a viewer is noticing the COLOR of the person rather than just seeing the PERSON, maybe it's the viewer himself that is doing the dehumanizing. Just something to think about ...

Because it's Black Cinema, regardless of whether it plays into a certain sterotype. Movies shouldn't be censored to show a certain agenda.

Some sell the stereotype, and are to blame......

Others BUY the stereotype, and are equally to blame.

The black lady that comes to a small white family and teaches them to dance and have fun. At the end of the film the whole family is rapping.

How about a Nerdy Asin guy, like the Donger, Or a Asian seductress, who knows a hundred postions. You never see a Asian man in a lead role. Unless it is a Action film.

Every black guy I see in films always has to be a tuff, take no prisonors type of guy. Either he is a cop or criminal. You never see a black proffesor or someone in a intelectuall role.

How about the black sidekick, that is killed, so the hero can avenge his death.

They just like to sterotype everyone, no one is left out.

Why does it sell?
Why can they make a movie full of sterotypes and it be a huge hit. Then turn around 2 years later and use the same story and use diffrent actors and call it something else. Agian it will be a huge success.

I would like to ask Hollywood.
Why do you keep putting rappers in all the movies? I know there is upcoming young black actors that are better than Ja-Rule.

After seeing XXX: State of the Union this past week, I ask myself that same question. Although I do like Ice-Cube (mainly for Three Kings and Friday) as I was watching that movie it was just a blitzkreg of cliches and sterotypes to the point where every line, action and motive was predictable and comical at the same time.

And on a side note, What was the deal with the allusion to World War 4, whatever happened to world war 3?
