Gas emissions a positive for earth?

I heard that the gases that we are releasing into the atmosphere which are supposedly destroying the ozone layer are at the same time protecting us as the ozone layer does. Anyone got any facts to proove/disprove this? If its true then perhaps the ozone layer depletion isnt such a problem, other than the obvious global warming factor
