Wilmington Delaware here ....

The meteorologists are predicting for us ...

1-3, 2-4, 3-5, 3-6, 4-8, 5-10, 6-12.

Yep ... they all have the same information and the same models, but they are all over the place on trying to tell us how much snow we will be getting. Ridiculous.

Anyways .. the cars are in the driveway with the windshield wipers up, the groceries are bought, and the snow shovels by the front door. Not much else to do to get ready.

Still have power.

Bout 3--4 inches of snow with ice underneath.

There will most likely be a LOT of power outages all across Kentucky later today when it turns back in to freezing rain.

I remember an ice storm once as a kid living in MI. Ice was about 3" thick and smooth as glass. Power was out all over from the weight of the ice. We played hockey on the street...and for several days even. I'll never forget how the daytime sun would warm the top part of the ice. Then, it would re-freeze again in the evening, and it was resurfaced better than any Zamboni could do. Nobody could drive anywhere because it was too slick, so we had all the streets in the whole neighborhood to ourselves. World's largest hockey and skating rink. Parents were hating it, but all us kids were loving it. I remember ice skating to my friend's house, and he lived about a mile away.

When I was a baby here in the UK, the sea froze, not that I remember it.

We used to have proper winters with feet of snow.

Not so much now, except up north. But it's always been grim up north....

You must be talking about the ice storm back in 1976, I remember it well.

We lost a lot of trees in my neighborhood from that ice storm.

Perfect timing. I knew on New Years eve my prescription that was due on Jan 1 was out of stock but had no way to even leave a message at the DRs office until Jan. 2. After 3 trips to the drs office and 4 to various pharmacies I was still unable to get it filled. I had a script at one store, they said they were filling but when I got there they said "It disappeared from the system". What? I thought they got rid of paper scripts so nothing could get lost? Here it is Sunday with snow coming and I have no idea of when I can get it. Hell, if I can go a week without it I'm gonna take myself off it!

You know what? I think it might actually have been 1976, now that you mention it!! That sounds about exactly right!

I just remember going outside and looking at the street. The ice was perfectly clear, you could see right through it to the concrete underneath like a sheet of really thick glass. We'd scar it all up playing hockey on it all day, but the next day it would be good as new and perfectly flat.

edit - I was actually thinking it was '75, but you're probably right.

76 is the only really bad one that I remember, I was 10 years old.

There might have been a few minor ones since then though.

I'm sure you're right and it was '76. I was in Wyoming after that, so I know it wasn't later. I recall people saying it was the worst ever.

I was born in the middle of that one!

Dad had a snow plow and was tasked with keeping the roads around RAF Fylingdales passable. Not sure if it was being built or operational at the time.

I was looking at pictures with Mum over Christmas and there was one with dad and his truck up on the moors. The snow on the sides of the road were at least 12 feet high.

By the ‘70s we were in Western Canada, we had a few ice storms back then and power outages. I haven’t seen that in years.

Back east they still have bad ones.

Flights cancelled, icy roads, power outages: Winter storm grips US

A severe winter storm, called the "heaviest snowfall in a decade," has left the central United States in tatters.

The storm has caused nearly 200 flight cancelations at St. Louis Lambert International Airport and blanketed major roads in Kansas, Nebraska, and Indiana with ice and snow.

The National Guard has been called to help motorists stuck in blizzard conditions.

What we have ... about an inch. The grass isn't even fully covered.

Storm is supposedly in 'warning' until 1am .. another 14 hours ... but by the looks of it, it's almost done.

Got about 1/4" of ice, and a foot of snow. Got sent home early from work yesterday, and I'm off today and tomorrow. So... Daydrinking and cooking. Hurt my back shoveling the driveway though.
