A judge has ruled president-elect Donald Trump must be sentenced on January 10 in the criminal case in which he was convicted on charges involving "hush money" paid to an adult film actress, adding that he is not inclined to impose a jail sentence.
Judge Juan Merchan said he denied Trump's motion to dismiss the case due to his presidential election victory. The judge said the Republican may appear for the sentencing, which will take place just 10 days before his inauguration, either in-person or virtually.
Judge Merchan wrote that a sentence of "unconditional discharge" — meaning no custody, monetary fine, or probation — would be "the most viable solution".

Merchan is setting up their exit strategy. The case will be dismissed eventually. They will milk it for what it's worth (which ain't much but they have to answer to somebody soon enough 😁)
One Merchan strategy is to not sentence Trump. An Appeal can't be filed until after sentencing. Brilliant because the case gets dismissed on Appeal anyway and THAT is the embarrassing part they need to avoid. 😀

Jury instructions were biased and prejudice
Indictment wasn't clear on the charges (denying due process etc)
Some evidence and witnesses were conflicted with Presidential Immunity etc
etc etc

No, that’s not what he said. He said the conviction will stand but there won’t be a strong penalty applied. Maybe none at all. Certainly no jail time.
Being found guilty of a crime is a separate issue from how much someone is punished for having committed the crime. The jury decides whether someone is guilty or not. The judge decides what the penalty is or is not.

Just cause the judge says he won’t jail Trump, I’m fairly certain he will try to jail Trump 🤣😂🙂

He's getting paid off. This side show will be tossed on appeal and Marchan may well find himself without a law license for misconduct.
