It happened in Oregon on about Xmas the story doesn't sit well with me 1st they do not mention names of the 2 men only ages and second, they say they appear to have died from exposure now if you are from there wouldn't you be prepared I'm wondering if the reason the names have not been released if they are known TV guys ?

Two Portland men who apparently wanted to catch a glimpse of the mythical Bigfoot—aka Sasquatch—have instead lost their lives in a forest in Washington state. The Skamania County Sheriff's Office says the unidentified men, ages 37 and 59, were found in the Gifford Pinchot National Forest after a three-day search, reports KOIN. "Both deaths appear to be due to exposure, based on weather conditions and ill-preparedness," says the sheriff's office in a news release.

Looks like they had no business being where they were given the circumstances.

RIP all the same poor sods.

One may have become injured or incapacitated and the other, unsure of what else to do, stayed with him. Seen it many times in Wyoming. Usually lack of experience and unfamiliar with the terrain coupled with not being fully prepared.

One is none, and two is one.
One is three, and two is five.

Good rules of thumb to remember as it relates to gear and time/days.

Surely even someone inexperienced would have known to take a lighter or fire starter even if most things are wet you can find something that will burn and start a good fire. there should have been plenty of water and that shouldn't even matter due to the short time they were missing.

Water and shelter (or the ability to shelter) are your two top priorities in order. Both are pretty easy propositions in Oregon. Depending on the location, I might not even bring water at all, but rather just purify it along the way and save the weight.

Sadly, we'll probably hear the same over-told tale. Got turned around (lost), panicked, got lost worse, got wet, hypothermia...went to sleep...game over.

The trick to not turning a trip to a forest into a desester depends on knowing what you can't do for the given area and weather conditions with what you know and what you have with you. Sounds like they did not have a clue as to what they were getting into.

I feel sad for their families and those that spent the time and effort looking for them.

Portland...go figure.

I wonder how much meth they had on them to keep warm?

edit..."YAY!...Let's go look for Bigfoot!! YAY!! YAY! (dance, point at the sky, dance, dance, crouch)...YAY!!" (sleep in a phone booth)

edit II - Hey, I've got a great idea!! Let's go to downtown Portland and organize search teams for BigFoot! We need thousands of members! Free Crack! Let's go! Free Crack! Free everything...it's BigFoot! Let's go!! Cmon, everybody!! Let's GO!! No teeth required!

I'm east of there and the weather about then was 35-48 degrees, mixed rain.

There was no real snow up until about 4,000 feet.

Conditions in Washington were warmer.

If they succumbed to hypothermia under those conditions they were WAY too green to even leave the city.

ETA, it looks like most of Gifford Pinchot National Forest on around the 23rd was around 28 to 47 degrees (depending on elevation), snowline at 3,000 feet.

Yea something is DEFINITELY fishy here. Two grown men die from exposure in 3 DAYS or fewer!?!? That's just makes no sense. Even if there were snow everywhere, they couldn't use things around them to keep warm for two, MAYBE 3 nights!?!? Or dig a snow cave?? They sure didn't starve to death in 3 days or fewer. And two grown men couldn't build a fire!?!? Exposure is the most suspicious sounding death ever! Maybe sasquatch found them and to teach them a lesson, wiped his butt with their clothes and THEN they died of exposure. But no way anything more innocent than that!

Who goes hunting for bigfoot on Christmas eve??????

Two Portland men were found dead Saturday in the Gifford-Pinchot National Forest in Washington, according to police, after the pair went missing for three days while searching for Sasquatch in a heavily wooded area.

The two men, aged 59 and 37, have not been publicly identified. They likely died from exposure to the elements, based on “weather conditions and ill-preparedness,” according to a statement from the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office. The area has seen heavy rains and freezing temperatures in recent days.

The men went into the forest on Christmas Eve, but never made it home, launching a three-day search and rescue mission involving more than 60 volunteers. Rescue crews battled freezing temperatures, snow and high water before locating the men, deceased in a heavily wooded part of the forest.

It is actually pretty hard to die of hypothermia in those conditions.

All they needed was the clothes you should have on in public and not both fall into a river without a way to light a fire.

I do admit that I have more training than most and an obscure lifestyle, but I could survive those conditions naked if I found a sharp rock within the first day.

I'm not buying the official story unless they were just crackheads from Portland.

Oh wait...

Yeah this thing doesn't add up. I would believe it maybe if it was one person, but two adult people? Knowing they're entering a forest in December? "Ill-prepared"? Maybe the families don't want their names released who knows.

I guess maybe I can see a scenario where two middle aged men who are "searching for bigfoot" go into the woods totally unprepared. Just seems unlikely. To me.

i might have a problem at -40 but a 40 degree day is easy.
i always carry a survival vest in my car and when hiking.
it has at least 5 ways to make fire and two ways to make a shelter
it has two knives and a tactical tomahawk. And water treatment straws.
it has low weight high carb food and drink mix. what else is really needed.
