There was a holiday drone show in Orlando for Christmas festivities. At some point something went wrong and they started crashing into the crowd. There were supposed to be two viewings, but the city canceled the second show for safety concerns.

A Florida holiday drone show took a tragic turn when more than a dozen of the aircrafts fell from the sky, leaving a child injured, federal officials said.
About 6:45 p.m., the "drones collided," the FAA reported, and fell into a crowd during the show.

Two performances were scheduled that day, the second of which was canceled due to "technical difficulties," the City of Orlando posted on Facebook.
The apparent mishap took place Saturday night in Lake Eola Park in downtown Orlando, the Federal Aviation Administration confirmed to USA TODAY.

Obviously we are in the opening phases of investigation however, it certainly executes itself as a successful terror op to drive fear about drones into the general public. Could very well be the beginning of a series of sudden random mishaps that may justify the re-classification of drones as a destructive device from some political agenda. That is just my conspiratorial scenario hypothesis on the incident. It may clearly just be bad calibration for a synchronized effort, lazy programming, slackerism in quality control, any combination of all or something completely different. All I know is if anyone in that crowd has seen FPV drone attacks on the internet recently, they had to be feeling uneasy as that happened.

I’m not really sold on the whole “drone” thing. There’s thousands of these things with the majority being in amateurs control. What could possibly go wrong?🤷‍♂️

If it wasn't for so much scary drone news over the past 3 weeks, this mishap/injuries in Orlando, wouldn't have made the news...anywhere.

The overhead drone malfunctions look safer than the fireworks mishaps that leave people blind, burnt, and bald headed.

Why would our government want to create laws to prevent John Q Citizens from having the ability to survey their environment? That makes as much sense as wanting gun laws to prevent law abiding citizens from being able to defend themselves.

This is sad, the child that was hit underwent open heart surgery. That’s going to be a hell of a lawsuit.

I hope he heals and makes it out okay.

A 7-year-old Florida boy who was injured when drones collided and fell into a crowd at a holiday airshow over the weekend underwent open heart surgery, his parents said.

No kidding! I always thought that if we all flew around like the Jetsons that it would be the coolest. The reality of that is…that it probably wouldn’t be that cool.

I hesitated to say anything earlier about this story, but I've been closely following it, and more particularly the boy's injury.

First off, I wish him the best of good will in his recovery, but something has struck me as odd ever since first learning of this story. Initially, the boy's mother was quoted as saying he had a severe head injury. Now, we read about him undergoing open heart surgery as a result of being struck. Something isn't sitting right.

From the very first reports of the story, and interviews with the mother, you could sense a very dramatic tone with her, like she was angling for a lawsuit. It was just in the words she used, all dramatic words about the boy's injuries, but only one short..."I hope he survives."...at the end. Seemed a bit disingenuous to me.

I'd really be interested to know if this boy had some underlying condition before the event.

Also, I don't know if anyone noticed, but the story reads...

Adriana Edgerton and Jessica Lumsden, parents of Alexander, said one of the red and green-lit drones struck him and knocked him out upon impact, causing a chest injury, Fox Orlando reported.

Adriana and Jessica??? "Parents"? I didn't even catch when I first became suspicious of this story, but just noticed it, further sparking my curiosity.

I could be sorely mistaken (and I will gladly admit as much if that turns out to be the case), but with all the drone talk in the news lately I wouldn't be surprised to learn of a whole bunch of people looking to cash in on a drone incident.

From another news story...

The Orlando Fire Department told News 6 that one person suffered a minor injury in the mishap, however, two mothers claim their son — who was apparently struck in the face by a rogue drone — was left “fighting for his life in the ER.”

Link 2

Further...

“[The City of Orlando] and Sky Elements Drones really have some explaining to do. They will be held accountable for what was done to my son. I pray he makes it out of this!”

Seems to me someone would be more worried about their child first, and worrying about compensation later, but maybe that's just me.
