I just saw the cell phone footage of this poor woman engulfed in flames and the perp fanning them with a shirt while onlookers observed the
situation.
From the video I saw, this was another person. I think they believed they were helping, not knowing fanning the flames only made things worse. This
wouldn't be an uncommon reaction from a person not knowing any better.
My immediate impression was she was either an elderly woman or undder the influence of drugs/alcohol.
I am inclined to agree. Elderly, or disabled. Upon further inspection of the videos, you can clearly see she had an aluminum walker to assist her.
Given she was seated next to the door, this would suggest she was seated in a handicapped seat on the train. Her reactions to being on fire are
inconsistent with any other persons I have observed on fire (i.e usually a wild panic). She was nearly motionless as she stood in what looked like a
puddle of gasoline or accelerant completely engulfed in flames. From the short video I witnessed, she only moved toward the end when it appeared she
made a step in the direction of the door, but also appeared to be falling at the same time. The eyewitness video panned away at that time with the
person taking it clearly freaking out over what they were seeing.
My initial reaction is...this victim was likely a street person who was highly intoxicated on either alcohol or narcotics (or both). This in no way
excuses this monster of a perp from a heinous crime, but the fact the victim has not been ID'd by now suggests this person is "off the radar" of local
and investigating authorities.
My first thoughts were failing to ID the victim were a bad thing, but maybe not. Identifying her as some lost homeless person diminishes the impact
of the crime, so maybe it's just as well she has not been ID'd. Maybe NYC authorities are actually coming around to the realization that these
illegal aliens really are a scourge on the NYC society. Allowing the public to wonder about the ID of the victim makes it more likely that the
average New Yorker (or visitor) could visualize this being themself or a loved one. So, maybe a good thing.
The literally just stood there in a daze while the fire immoliated her.
In some frames she looked frail and thin, and it others her legs appeared to be more muscular, it kept shifting back and forth as people moved in
front of the camera.
Very bizzare and tragic nontheless.
