When you're on official government business you don't fly commercial and all you have to de to make your vacation official business is meet with somedignitary for a quick handshake. It's also quite common to take family tag-a-longs.

I've been able to legally write off my vacations as business expenses over the past 30+ years by doing "something" business related while at the resort, on the cruise ship, etc.. The tax system was designed by business-owners, which means it benefits business owners far more than non-business-owners. Another reason why a flat tax sucks in our eyes. Why pay 15% flat, when I pay 0% by using legal deductions?

Could you get your company to foot the bill for dragging along nearly 100 friends and family, plus the requisite reporters, aides abd staff?

Only if we are House Speaker or Senate Majority leader.

LOL. Just saying, The US isn't exactly #1 in the medical world as I have stated above. We do have some amazing specialized facilities but overall, many medical facilities and personnel here are lacking. And Germany isn't exactly a kick in the pants. Just saying I wouldn't be worried about having a medical procedure done there, it wouldn't scare me. I'm sure Pelosi had the best of the best regardless of where her procedure was performed.

There seems to be a lot of hip problems in people these days. I must know a dozen people personally who had hip replacements or hip surgery and another six or more who had knee surgeries. Seems to be quite a few rotator cuff surgeries in people I know too. Being that I worked in construction and know quite a few farmers, I suppose it is the reason I know so many people in this area.... Lots of people getting surgeries on their eyes too....probably from looking at LED screens for that one though.
