Well, if a person or entity can figure out how to gain control of 51% (or more) of the stock in said company, then they have effectively purchased it. Typically it's called a 'Hostile Takeover' (although in this case it might be desirable).

Still false though, but just a response to your question. It is possible.

I worked for a very large international publicly traded company which had this exact thing happen to it. It was pretty crazy how it all went down. Basically, the company needed cash so they borrowed it from a venture capital firm. Part of the terms were that the company had to allow some 'activist investors' to sit on the Board of Directors. Behind the scenes, and unbeknownst to the Board, the same venture capital group was working over major stockholders on Wall Street from different angles. Once they had some of the heavy hitters hamstrung and vulnerable in the market they moved in on the company stock. When the Board figured out what was going on, the 'activist investor' Board members paralyzed them from doing anything about it. It was over in less than 24 hours. Literally the next day they walked into the CEO's office and said it was "Game Over!" (This was about a $150 billion dollar take down). About a week after that they laid off about 40,000 employees (I was not one of them). Ten months after that, they dumped the stock on the NYSE and vaporized with their profits. It was like a corporate coup.

Musk keeping talking on X abouthow the platform is "the new journalism" and he's (and his fan boys) are obessively posting AI generated images with aptriotic and visionary overtones. Folks are fed up with mainstream media and opting for other avenues for their information fix, so given Musk is an austistic synchophant milking his name and imge for all it's worth pretending HE invented Tesla, that HE designed and egineered the Space X successes, and he's got a bit of the Evil Genius m.o. alongside a Lcuiferian God Complex, it's not too much of a stretch for him (and his minions) to falsify news stories.

I'm a Ford girl. When I read this thread headline I became instantly concerned that Musk was going to turn Ford into an another Cybertruck exploding EV nightmare and once again weild his Trust Fund selfishly. I won't be able to buy a vehicle for another couple of decades, and boy howdy Imgonna be pissed if the only available Truck options are EV's.

CIvilian transport? Sure. Make those grcoery getters enviornmentally sustainable and help grandmas and the illiterate navigate how to oeprate heavy machinery, but leave my gas powered work trucks out of the equation.

Who would want Ford.

Not even if they gave it to Elon.

Not his style.

a hostile takeover may get you control of the company, but you don't own it

I see no evidence anywhere that Elon has acquired a major stockholder interest in Ford. I see that Ford released a statement that Elon did not buy Ford though, it is supposedly just a hoax.

That does not mean he has not bought a lot of Ford stock though, and if he did, he will have some influence in the companies direction if he has voting power. But even if he does own some Ford stock, it is probably just to help grow his fortune. Two corporations working together can help each other, so I will not blindly discredit this either.

He may have also purchased some of their loans they have, but I doubt if he would do that unless he had some say so into the business. I doubt if that information would even be possible to uncover and I think Elon is more into working with other US companies, not owning them.
