God, I feel old...

I was 7. Got my first walkman (sanwa i think) for my birthday. Found my mom's cassette and didn't know what it was and it was already rewinded to the beginning of the album (Best of Ballads). I was in the garage and riding my tricycle. Rock you like a hurricane hit me like a hurricane really. I was just listening to classical music back then. My father was a musician as a hobby and he had an electric guitar. That album saved it from being it given to my cousin and now I am a guitarist and a music producer. Still play them on guitar. Best feeling in the world.

Absolutely, I was in junior high when Rock you like a Hurricane came out.
Oddly, in my head, that doesn't seem like so long ago.

Speaking of "Walkmans", I got my first in-ear music with things called "Astral-Tunes". They were expensive Walkmans, padded in foam and made for skiing crashes. Youre's truly was a patroller back then and amped up for high angle rescues. We specialized in OoB (Out of Bounds) rescues, the deep and dangerously steep stuff.

Early on, I wanted Corbet's, but there were other better skiers than me (this is extreme in the extremist of "extreme"). I had my certs and went to Utah, first SnowBird and then Alta. Alta was crazy. There was sh!t in Alta which even scared me, and I wasn't scared of nothin' The snow there was 'avalanche City'!. Man, that was some crazy stuff.

All us old skiers can tell stories about all the cool sh!t we used to do, but at the end of the day; there's way crazier than I ever was as a patroller skiing steep and deep trees (which will injure you in a second, if you're not paying attention).

Back to the "Walkman"...my roommate in college had an Astral-tunes...and he wasn't even that good of a skier; I was.

I always wanted one of those things, but I couldn't afford one. I wasted more than (five) Walkman's, before I realized I didn't need any music to truly SKI!
