CNN

Former Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz said Thursday that he is withdrawing as President-elect Donald Trump’s pick for attorney general, writing on social media that his nomination “was unfairly becoming a distraction.”

Gaetz’s withdrawal comes after meetings with Republican senators this week, as Trump’s transition team sought to gauge whether he would win enough GOP support to be confirmed and Democrats were pushing to release a House Ethics Committee report into the former congressman.

I can't help but think this was calculated for another reason. Gaetz has been the same guy for a while now. So none of this is a surprise, other than the pick, and now the withdraw. It will be interesting to see who is put up next. I think that might have been the plan all along. Next one will be controversial as well, but now you can play the "then who don't you oppose" card. Time will tell.

Looks like a chess move. Person capable of doing damage to these people is requirement #1. I hope it’s a woman, but whom fits the bill?

I thought the same thing.

Put up a guy everyone will throw a fit about, then pick someone they will see as "not so bad"

That is actually the one you wanted in the first place.

We shall see.

I think Glenn Greenwald would be a good pick. Was a constitutional Lawyer, and isn’t really beholden to a party.

That's fine. DeSantis can appoint him to Rubio's senate seat.

Either Paxton or Bailey would be great AGs

That would be cool, I don't think he would want it though.

Since when be bias to a party makes any difference at all, look what democrats did and how they weaponized the

DOJ, let's not forget Garland fetish with Trumps wife underwear drawer that was targeted under him by his department.

Trump needs a DOJ that answers to him, feck a impartial one.

If there’s going to be any semblance of a DOJ that isn’t weaponized politically, than it should be impartial. A tit for tat won’t fix it.

The constitution isn’t political. The Supreme Court, and the broader “justice” system shouldn’t be either.

Glenn has proven far more consistency than any other AG in my lifetime.

Both parties have continually bolstered the patriot act, and found more use cases for the archaic espionage act.

Glenn has been fair on Trump, which IMO is far better than blind loyalty.

Yea, I doubt he’d take it too. I think part of him moving to Brazil was because of how the US treated him over the Snowden story.

He'll probably pick someone no one has seen or heard of like his education pick or the WH chief.

I'm sure this person will be "very talented , patriotic and eager to get law and order restored in America". Except, my gut tells me this person will do nothing of the sort, substantially.

Without securing the DOJ, and I mean SECURE, you're pretty much DOA. I would imagine this will be the case for other transitioning agencies and departments as well.

Rough job ahead. Trump can't do it himself but people are going to let him try before they budge, even after he was nearly killed! And that's if they budge at all. I hope it won't be a day late and a dollar short.

As it stands, there should be protests all over the country concerning this plan to go hot with Russia. But there isn't.🤷🏻

I think Gaetz knew from to get-go that his job was to ''take one for the Big Guy'' all along. His notoriety, bad or good depending on ones persuasion would automatically draw the limited attention of the msm and they would focus on ''what a threat he is to our democracy'' and in doing so, pay less attention to Trump's other ''questionable'' , to some, nominations.

He drops out and the liberal press and media all go '' AHA, a victory fo us '' and the all then quiet down a bit feeling smug and momentarily satisfied with them selves. He also gets to officially duck the charges he was facing in the House.

Meanwhile, Trump will tuck him up into a womb of safety, maybe make him a ''top advisor'' or some such ''mouthpiece'' for the administration with plenty of photos with Trump to hang on the walls of his wife's house..

The ''great sacrifice'' he emphasized in his withdrawal statement was perfectly done and dovetails perfectly with Trump's acceptance of his withdrawal speech as well, the whole thing perfectly scripted and both come out heroes of the revolution.

Senator Mike Lee. Decades of service in legal industry. While a staunch conservative, he's also been right up front with energy and resources, and that ain't bad.

Jessie is a POS, and deserved every bad thing that came to him.

The DA was a POS who made a bad deal, which unfortunately he fulfilled.

He originally got a slap on the wrist. The DA said if he forfeited his bond, and did community services they wouldn’t bring charges on him.

He did the deal, and another judge brought charges.

While I wish he got the book thrown at him, I don’t know if it’s a good precedent to make DA deals worthless.

Look at it this way, his career is done, and he had to spend a load on legal fees. Hopefully his name disappears into obscurity now. In ten years, people will watch the infamous Chappell skit and wonder why the crowd is hunched over from a killer joke that went over the viewers head.
