In the mid to late 70's. my friends and I were some of the early pioneers of modern skateboarding. From primitive plywood boards and clay wheels to
urethane wheels with precision bearings our skill and lack of fear progressed us to new heights LOL. Starting with riding drainage ditches to
abandoned swimming pools (thanks to the great California drought) and then beyond to sneaking onto Federal land to ride 24 foot pipes made for the
Central Arizona Project.
In a time before skateparks, our lives revolved around discovering new places to ride with zero regard for safety or the law (I actually did get
arrested for trespassing on Federal land in Arizona in '76). It was an amazing time in my life - recently capped off when my friend and partner in
crime Doug Schneider was inducted into the
Skateboard Hall of Fame.
