No conspiracy here. Politics!

Naw I'm just joshin' no politics.

Anybody have any good recipes for a healthful foot bath? Detox?

I have severe neuropathy from alcoholism. It's mostly subsided with plenty of B-vitamins and Potassium supplements. I still get attacks from time to time.

Gabapentin helps but F the medical system in the USA. It's an F'ing joke sometimes and I don't care to keep performing like Shamu to get prescriptions. I can't seem to get employed, no insurance.

ANYWAYS!

I've tried doing foot baths on a whim for my neuropathy. I trust my intuitions. Quick research shows they have no medical benefit. But F that. I'll try anyways.

I have had some success with mixing sea salt, epsom salt, and baking soda and soaking for about 30 minutes every night. I'm not sure that it actually does anything, but it seems to reduce the number of painful attacks I've been getting.

At the very least, it exfoliates the hell out of my footsies!

Detox is a myth but can't go wrong using a warm saltwater bath and making sure socks are dry and changed regularly (bamboo is really comfy, warm and anti-fungal/microbial).

Have participated in a study using hot and cold cycles to reduce knee and shoulder pain from prior surgery which worked for me (doing several cycles of warm then cold for around a 60 - 90 seconds each) which worked for me but may be wise to ask a dr/physio if advisable with your paticular case before trying and risking a painful flareup.

If it's circulation/reynaud's related and triggered when they get cold then insulated plastic bands should be available on the market by now that cure it but bamboo/merino wool socks should have a very similar effect - ones with thicker material/insulation on the top of the foot where all veins are/heat is lost - I used to wear these when doing races in icy water to avoid nerve damage - Icebreaker socks

Detox is a myth

Yeah that's pretty much what I figured. I think the B-Vitamins and Potassium did most of the work for nerve repair.

I tend to get my attacks in the evening, so maybe stimulating my feet a bit before bed eases that I dunno.

I get prescribed Gabapentin for nerve damage.

And it's the only thing that puts a dent in the pain.

Dont really know much about foot soaks but good luck.

I feel ya buddy! Random firing nerve damage is the worst I've ever encountered, and I've spent 3 years fighting cancer with half a dozen major surgeries.

Shingles was the worst of it!

(Oops forgot to mention I get it worst in my feet which is why I am trying the soaks.)

Giving them a massage/keeping them moving as much as possible is essential for keeping pain down and improving circulation/speeding up healing.

The suppliments will certainly help, I'm on pregabalin for mine but was recently recomended calcium/vitamin E suppliment by my neuro to reduce pain from cold and damp as it plays a very similar role to GABA drugs without the health/addiction risks.

Interesting! I will add Vitamin-E to my shopping list. Thanks for your input.

From an Aromatherapy perspective, try and get hold of following essential oils Grapefruit: repairs damage to melanin sheath around nerve endings. Black Pepper: stops the 'sparking' in nerve endings. But don't use this oil if you are still undergoing treatment for cancer. Plai: Massive pain killer. Add a drop of each to your foot soak or 3 drops of a single oil. Be mindful not to have your water too hot as this will inflame your nerve endings even more.

Man Im huge on soaking your feet, but Ive got scar tissue from burns on my feet and legs from when I was a kid. So my stuff is circulatory related somewhat

Even had surgery on my left foot as a teen and the doctor then said I likely have trouble with it as I got older and do. The neuropathy sometimes is off the charts, burning, itchy, tingling, and numbness.

I used magnesium oil after a warm soak, but Ive also found DMSO has been very helpful, among other things it softens the scar tissue but also seems to knock down the neuropathy.

I do take a GABA supplement also magnesium, and other anti-inflammatory stuff daily and it still occasionally flares up. It's a process though I was starting to develop neuropathy in my hands that has dropped off dramatically Im assuming it is the magnesium and the DMSO that I apply and massage in with my hands.

Yeah the magnesium is why I went for the epsom salts. I haven't been able to find anything that corroborates, but I swear I read an article before that said traipsing around barefoot on the ocean/ beach was a natural detoxing process through the feet because of the exfoliating and salinity.

Again, it might be nothing, but it has seemed to help.

I have neuropathy real bad, too. I first tried soaking them in things like epsom salts, which didn't really seem to do anything for me. Then I was prescribed Gabapentin, which worked for a while, but became ineffective in the end. Plus I read where it could give you suicidal thoughts, so I haven't used it since. What works for me right now, is I do deep kneebends right before I go to bed. 10-20 seems to be enough. And I make sure to push up from the front of my feet so that they get the maximum workout. It seems to shut down the pain and then I can sleep the whole night straight through. (For eight hours anyway, which is what my body needs.)

This works for me at least. Just a suggestion.

I would like to add, that when my Dad was going through chemo, the neuropathy in his legs and feet drove him crazy we tried everything under the moon and stars.

This man never complained in his life about pain or anything else but this hit him hard.

We got him a TENS therapy device and one of the heavy-duty foot and leg massagers, they do help me with my flare-ups. The TENS device interrupts the electric signals of pain and the massager rattles loose the tension associated.

Ive fallen asleep using both of these methods they significantly improve my circulation

Apple cider vinegar soak: Add 1 cup of apple cider vinegar to a tub of warm water and soak the feet for 20–30 minutes.

Baking soda and sea salt soak: Dissolve 1 cup of sea salt and 1 cup of baking soda in a warm footbath. Soak the feet in it for 30 minutes.

Epsom salt soak: Dissolve 2 cups of Epsom salt into a gallon of warm to hot water. Soak the feet in it for 20-30 minutes. This is especially helpful for bruises or injuries like sprains or plantar fasciitis.

Ionic bath: Soak your feet in an ionic bath to help remove toxins from the body. Foot detoxes can also be performed using foot masks, scrubs, pads, and acupressure.

Tea Tree oil is very popular to add too.

Also, it's not soaking, but Chinese meds will put a pad on your foot and the herbs inside will draw out toxins too.

Epsom salts, only a couple of tablespoons needed, and a little Witches hazel will help bring out some toxins that collect in the feet. I suppose some people cannot use both of those ingredients. I studied the Kinoki pad chemistry years ago, those things did help the wife and I but then they removed something from them and they did not work as well. Not worth buying them anymore...They could have just weakened them because the FDA might have had some complaints or something

Depending on what you want to do, there are quite a few combinations you can use. I am not fond of the vinegar soak myself, it made my feet red for about four hours, although I could have made it too strong.

Have you looked into DMSO (Dimethylsulfoxide) ??

I have heard some good things about DMSO...have not tried personally but have been looking into it after a friend spoke highly about it....Check out some of the links and videos....best of luck

I began haveing foot and leg cramps about a year ago and noticed when I don't drink enough water each day I can count on a painful, sleepless night.

I hope you get some relief; night cramps suck!

So you could use 3 drops of Plai to the footbath?

Can you still add pink salt to the warm water?

If you are only using a single oil e.g. Plai, then yes 3 drops. Yes, you can still add the Himalayan salt to the water too if you want.
