Just rescued this little bundle of fur.

He's a 9-month-old Border Collie/Frisé mix.

That nobody wanted and was being passed about from pillar to post.

He is all skin and bone and has lost a lot of his fur under his chin extending down towards the rest of his chest.

Does anybody have any idea why that may be?

Could it be a hormonal issue or down to stress?

I'll take him to the vet later on in the week just in case.

Awwww.... he's a little cutie!
I'd take him to the vets as soon as you can. I know nothing about dogs, but from a quick read it could be anything from mange to Cushing's disease!!!
Hope it's something very minor.

Cheers Jane. He's a character and a half thus far.

Cushing's disease symptoms would seem to include.

"Increased thirst and urination
Increased appetite
Reduced activity
Excessive panting
Thin or fragile skin
Hair loss
Recurrent skin infections
Enlargement of the abdomen, resulting in a "pot-bellied" appearance".

He's only ticking the hair loss box as far as i can determine, only had him about 48 hours so lets hope not.

But he's really lively and loves playing with the big SaIuki, really coming out his wee shell.

I think it will be down stress more than anything else and the crap life he's had thus far.

A wee leaky eye as well, and previous owners' kids had painted his hind quarters blue, which seems to have come off for the most part.

We will get him fed up, settled in and full of vitamins, hopefully his hair will start to grow back.

But yeah a wee trip to the vet on Monday is probably for the best.

I'm thinking it's likely stress, or mange.
I'll be following to see updates on how he is.

Skin looks good, so not mange IMO. Border collies are great dogs, but require a lot of exercise. He'll keep you busy. Good for you for rescuing him. He'll be a loyal companion for years to come.

What an awesome person you are! I bet this is gonna be the sweetest lil pup EVER! I had a Bichon Frise and she was just......delightful. no other way to describe them. Always looked like she was smiling!

Give him smooches from me

Who wouldn't want that adorable teensy lil baby?

No idea on the fur. Thanks for posting this though I needed an uplifting moment today.

Yeah, the other one in my avatar does that already yeahright.

I had Border Collies when i was a lad, working dogs do indeed require a lot of exercise.

Animals are always loyal.

By my guess better than most humans in that respect.

He could dealing with a food or environmental allergy or both. That's been my experience with dogs losing their fur anyway.

Had a black lab back about 2000. She had bare patches on her back.
Turned out to be due to tape worms.

Stool sample can show segments sometimes. Vets with microscopes can find eggs.

The medicine for tape worms isn't the same as for heart worms or round worms.

It could be stress.

Thats kind of you to rescue him.

I rescued my pup Titus in May at a dog park where he was dumped and in need of an eye operation (cherry eye) He was in bad shape then, but transformed into the best pupp ever. Cane Corso. Reverse black brindle.

Wow! Thats a very cute little dude! My goodness.
The fur loss could be mange.

Or he wore a harness that was to tight for to long rubbing it off.

Or someone shaved it. The skin looks so healthy nice and pink not red or dry and cracked or brown like you see with mange.

Awww...he's cool!

Feed him up and take some care of him and I'm sure he'll be fine. Dog-lette's are the best people. They rarely ever lie, and seldom ever complain about real injuries.

I personally like dogs better than most humans!!

That's okay...just take care of the little dude and he'll be fine.

I've raised dogs for decades; I love them all. Mine were mostly Labradors, but it doesn't matter...dogs are good people...better than us humans~! Honest.

Oh, I've had all sorts of dogs over the years.

From mongols to pedigrees.

You tend to get more problems with the pure breeds imho.

Dogs are indeed good people.

Could be stress or allergies.

He's adorable! I'm surprised nobody metioned fleas. I had a Lhasa Apso that was alergic to fleas, of all things! That, and an alergy to regular dog food made from mostly grain. The vet called it a 'hot' diet.
She had one hip that went bald over the weekend. After the vet treated her for fleas, we changed her diet and her hair was growing back in a matter of days.

Ive checked him for Fleas.

Dont seem to be any.

The other one is murder for those as well because he likes to play in the long grass in the field/green.

Ile give him some worming tablets and fleas tablets just to be safe tomorrow.

I suppose it could be the likes of microscopic mites that we cannot see.

Guess the vet will give a more definitive answer when we pay him a visit.

As to diet, he will be on dry food like the Saluki, for the most part.

Although i may start him off on some puppy chum for a few weeks.

Down to his age and the fact that he appears to be somewhat under weight and a bag of bones.

He's very lucky to have been adopted by you! I've no doubt you'll get to the bottom of things and give him the best life possible.

What a lucky pup!
