On Tuesday, the news organization is laying the first bricks in a so-called paywall that should, over time, help foot the bill for CNN’s journalism around the world.

"First bricks"? Believe "Final nails" is the correct metaphor, NOBODY is gonna subscribe to them.

CNN = Constant Noise and Nonsense
MSNBC = More of the Same, Nothing But Crap
ABC = Always Been Crap
NBC = Nothing But Crap
CBS = Constant BS
NPR = Nonsense and PRevarication

I now just stick to Weekly World News. It is more credible than the rest.

I think almost all new outlets now are doing this now. CNN is not the only one. Which is a shame. News should be free. This will drive people to get news from other sources that may not be legitimate.

Lol, so you think CNN is legitimate source of news
and not biased and manipulated to serve the dnc. I would recommend you watch the documentary called spin.

Despite filling-out those viewing forms when I was a teen, I don't really get the whole ratings thing.

Don't really believe them all anyways, as they surely are trying to stretch their suspenders, to get more ad revenue.

CNN September Ratings
According to available data, CNN’s ratings in September 2024 were:

Total primetime viewers: 695,000 (a 2% increase from the previous week)

So for 700k supposed viewers, probably counting all of the poor souls in waiting rooms forced to watch it : they still pull-in multi-million dollar ad campaigns ?

As compared with :

Most Watched JRE Podcast Episodes
The views that Joe Rogan’s podcast receives are mind-blowing, and Elon Musk’s initial appearance on the podcast back in 2018 is still the most viewed episode on YouTube, with 67 million views.

Related: Joe Rogan Podcast Setup

The episode that featured both Jeremy Corbell and Bob Lazar comes in at 2nd place with 44 million views, and in 3rd place is Edward Snowden’s first appearance on the podcast, which has 36 million views.

They don't seem to count podcast views the same as TV ratings, but still clear what folks want to watch.

I guess I am stuck with MSNBC.....and they are further left than CNN.

If you are going to watch that crappy MSNBC .. then you need them to pay you.
Otherwise, you are just wasting your time and putting your brain in dangerous territory.

I know your just 1 person but I wouldn't even give MSNBC a single click and view and any advertising revenue they get from you visiting. MSNBC is even worse then CNN.

Besides if you watch Fox News every once and awhile they will show the crazy talk that MSNBC is spewing, it's always laughable

Weekly world news?? Some of their stories can be a bit iffy and some are right down unbelievable, especially their cover stories, but yes I have agree much more credible then the ones you mentioned as sad as that is

Paywalled news sites used to be for company's that had physical print, and had to make some sort of revenue to foot the bill for print and keep ads on their sites down to a manageable amount.

CNN was never a legit printed news paper, same as fox News, they didn't have the same standards as a printed news source and brought us the hyper in your face BREAKING NEW!! type of journalism. I don't even bother with any of those places, too many ads, too many opinions pieces, and now, pay walled. Nah. I'll stick to scouring the internet for local news and collective opinions on various sites like here.

we're not in a good place with this. news providers need resources to gather their product, = they need money. I'm not sure how much online ad revenue is but I doubt if its huge.
a lot of people are saying 'I'm not paying for online news'. it's like people refuse to pay a fee for a credit card.

it looks like news sources will dwindle and people will be less informed, especially at the local level. in my area there is one newspaper and they are a pay site so I never read it. so I have no idea what's going on locally (if anything).
sometimes I can find content on local tv site.

I really wish there was access to more international news. I ended up registering with the Reuters site, they are one of the few sources I can find with decent world news.

I get on feeds like the MSN site now and them. the run a lot of al-Jazzeera stuff, which I don't consider to be a legitimate news source.

I wonder if we'll wake up one day and the progressives will start using our tax $ to fund news and information, meaning we'll end up with government news.

now and then congress talks about subsidizing local news papers (many of them dying for the above reasons). if the government pays, the government dictates content. bad idea...but I don't know if local papers can continue in this environment.
(lots of locals are being bought by Gannett, which turns them all into WaPo wannabes
)

I wasn't necessarily calling CNN legitimate. That was not my point. My point was that more news websites are going this route. Instead of just focusing on CNN how about you read what was in front of it. Don't get stuck with the CNNDS. Not everything is political my guy.

One of my favorite places to get local and regional news was the Miami Herald. But they paywalled the website. Shame because they were actually great.

That's hilarious.

Who's gonna pay for DNC propaganda? Might as well take out a subscription for the NYT or the Atlantic.
