The Taylor Swift We Know Now Was Born on ‘1989’

It’s the 10-year anniversary of Swift’s iconic pivot to pop, and of the album that shifted the trajectory of both her career and the music industry

By Nora Princiotti Oct 28, 2024, 2:45pm EDT

That moment was the release of 1989, and that album turned 10 years old on Sunday.

Nora can't do math

Huh?!
Is Nora using Obama math?
Because it's been 35 years not ten...

Ten years ago, was 2014...

Does any one born after the Android generation even know how to do arithmetic? This is a disgrace and laughable.

Can any one explain to me, the mistake made here.

I don't care about the story, I'm interested in the numbers.

She's saying the album was named 1989 and that it was released 10 years ago.

It was also the year she was born.

It's funny how numbers can have meanings beyond there numerical value.

Take 1984 for example. It is also the name of a book. Some think it is an instruction manual.

There are many sites trying to explain 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Most seem to miss that it is a measure fo how far the Nautlis goes in its travels and not how deep it goes.

Much like words can mean more than one thing, so can numbers.

Was born "on" 1989, had me totally confused and after that nothing made sense. I know it's a typo and they meant 'in', but I got confused nevertheless.

This marks the time she may have gotten in league with the "other side" of Hollywood. If you know what i mean.. Honestly should have stayed country. Now she is just Katy Perry 2.0 nothing great. At least she had some decent country songs.

The one that gets me is when people say, "I went, or, He or she went TO hospital" instead of , "I went, or, He or she went to THE hospital".

Same thing with the use of: university. "I was at university during the meltdown of '08".

Doesn't pair well with my 70s thru 80s education. It's an improper sentence according to Mrs. Sandoval (4th grade).
🤷🏻

As I am sure Mr Sandoval would explain, the use of the definite article would only be relevant if the specificity of the university or hospital were unambiguous.

Taylor Swift's album titled "1989" was released on October 27, 2014.

Mrs. Sandoval.

Mr. Sandoval would be her husband. Not sure if she was married.

It's like saying, "Taylor Swift's album titled "1989" was released in October 27, 2014.

"I received my degree at University" sounds proper?

Sounds retarded to me.

We may be referring to different people

It's like saying, "Taylor Swift's album titled "1989" was released in October 27, 2014.

Again, that would be assuming that there must be a greater specificity about the quoted date than one might reasonably assume.

Dates and times usually are not assumed to be atomic clock precise and so most readers would assume that they refer to an event happening somewhere within the 24 hour period as measured in the locality of of the event.

For example, my time zone is currently 19 hours ahead of someone from the West Coast of the US, so I am almost a day ahead of them, at exactly the same time.

This is just one reason why time and date measurements are best left as generalizations in common usage.

Well, one may also possibly have received a degree at a college, or online, or by correspondence, so again, without an expectation of excess specificity, there is nothing wrong with saying it that way, conversationally.

Why would you listen to the political openion of an athlete? That is like getting fishing advice from a banker. How about investment advice from a baker?

Oh sweet Advisor, as a Swiftie I chuckled at your post. I also think how they worded it is confusing if you aren't aware of her album titles.

She was born in 1989 which is also one of her album titles. It came out 10/27/2014. Oh how I played that CD over and over and watched the YouTube videos. It is considered her transition to pop album. It has the popular songs Blank Space, Shake it Off and Bad Blood.

I watch the grainy live streams weekly of the Era's Tour. She is on tour currently, her last show in the US was last night. Next she goes to Canada to finish the tour.
