Good Morning ATS!

Good Thursday morning and welcome to MORNING RECON.  On this day in 1967, the Outer Space Treaty, signed on January 27 by more than sixty nations, comes into force. The Outer Space Treaty, formally the Treaty on Principles Governing the Activities of States in the Exploration and Use of Outer Space, including the Moon and Other Celestial Bodies, is a treaty that forms the basis of international space law

Morning Recon

There you have it folks.

Where does that leave us today?

What are the major changes, any one?

Nice one s/f! What’s changed is we still don’t know earth.

I still wonder if the moon rings like a bell!

Can we really get men to Mars?

Where is Superman!

Nothing has changed!

The Outer Space Treaty of 1967 was never worth the paper it was written on. It was a farce.

I have provided the details several times to ATS over the decades about the deception. The last "news" was the official start of the US Space Force. --Like it was something brand new. (They passed out new uniforms and patches?) It started decades ago as "The Space Command." You can find the details of why, how and when it began in a book named Military Space Forces: The Next 50 Years, by John M. Collins, Commissioned by the US Congress for congressional dummies, 1989, ISBN 0-08-037432-8.

He details official government reports, papers, etc. to explain how and when The Space Command started, how it was revamped to include the US Army at a later stage, and how we were going to further investigate the Moon and our plans to get out to the La Grange points to set up a space perimeter, etc.

MOL & ALMAZ

it sure was, the U.S. military had a program that they started training for in1964. the ussr had one to but i'm not sure if they started theirs in the 60's or 70's. their last one was suppose to have 23 mm cannon on it but never went up.

here's a couple of articles, there also a couple of thread from way back like 10 years or so which i can't seem to find (cause i can't remember the name of the OP or the titles of the threads) that has a bunch of info on both. the aritcle i wanted to post starts out with a guy find their space suits that doesn't look like NASA's and has very little to no identification on them.

here is a documentary about them, 5 min to 6: 32 mark is where they find the space suits.1629 mark the russian talk about theirs.

here's a article about MOL.

50 Years Ago: NASA Benefits from Manned Orbiting Laboratory Cancellation

wiki on ALMAZ

OPS-4The next Almaz station, OPS-4, was to be the first station launched with a three panel Mech-A synthetic-aperture radar and a crewed reusable Return Vehicle VA, however the VA was replaced by a second TKS docking port. This station's Shchit-1 23 mm defense cannon was also to be replaced with an advanced Shchit-2 space-to-space cannon. The Shchit-2 was reported to be a two projectile system, although no photographs of it have ever been published and it does not appear that this system was ever installed on the station. OPS-4 was grounded when the Almaz crewed program was cancelled.

The general idea of the treaty was for the peaceful, coexistence of space exploration and development.

Rumors of nukes, rods of god, lazars, EMF and other things going on. I don't really know.

One story a few years ago was China taking out one of its satellites from a ground based platform. If caused a big stink from all the shrapnel generated and fears of triggering a chain reaction of space junk. Have not heard about any other similar tests since.

Overall, appears as though the treaty is generally holding. Russia is looking after the American on the ISS while they sort out their space ship troubles. If that is what is really all about?

Have not heard about any major space conflicts at this time. As for how space holds the high ground for the more conventual and earthy based conflicts, it is a lot to ask of humanity to not drag its issues beyond. So far good.

I always liked the space program that was proposed, before it was made public. There's a PDF posted here on ATS in one of my posts some where...and a thread on Planetary Defense.

In 1959 there was a plan for a nuclear powered Luna base;
Project Horizon: ABMA explores a lunar outpost

I truly believe that it's up there, and that's why the Chinese were so determined to get on the moon. They now have our old nuclear facility.

Does NATO have the funds for a space program? Sounds like Europe will just go with America for now.
