In the video below, you will see what I'm talking about. It's that old Mars photo of that supposed green Alien-like figure or Statue!

It's not either of the above:

It's a Mountain edge and we are looking at it from back a bit so it looks like that photo is one whole ground photo... it isn't but you need to look at it from the perspective of walking on a mountain ledge and the part where the supposed woman is, is just the edge when looking over... the head part is further down on the ground below... a crevice!

You need to really focus with your eyes properly and you too will see the Mountain Ledge/edge from right to left or left to right.

I haven't watched the vid yet.

But from the vid clip freeze frame in your post, that looks like the side of a pyramid that is crumbling.

So not a statue, just an old building.

How close to Incan is that supposed not statue? Aztec maybe?

IDK, just have to go with just my eyes and try to watch this without sound.

ETA

Ok, it does look like AI did us a favor on this one. Details were fuzzy in original. I believe this was not a natural formation.

Yes, it is natural... it's the edge of the Mountain!

Are you blind?

Hardly a mountain, all those features are small.

If thats some sort of craves or ravine, thats kinda more interesting to me, as thats where you would have more chance of encountering macrobiotic life.

At least in my opinion.

I'll get back in my box.

It's the edge of a mountain... looking down onto flat ground!

And why has my Avatar changed?

On the panorama we can see the rover, and measurements made with a program that uses stereo images and camera data point to a height of around 6 cm.

6cm height? No... can't be.

That Rover is either on a cliff edge or a mountain ledge for sure.. can clearly see the edge in that video still in the op.

Been easy to trick people that photo and video's on youtube... I too, never saw the mountain edge or cliff edge until I posted this thread but never really took the time to analyse it all that much... shows how much our eyes can see things we think are there but I never once thought it was some Alien Woman or Statue!

Now for my more detailed explanation.

That feature appears in several photos, so I used photos 2n247451690radawccp0715l0c1 and 2n247451690radawccp0715r0c1, available on the Spirit Analyst's Notebook.

As those photos are from the navigation camera's left and right lens respectively, they allow us to create a 3D image, so here it is, in three different versions.

First an anaglyph, for those red/cyan glasses (for anyone interested in Mars photos I strongly suggest getting one of those, are many photos are stereo pairs and allow the creation of 3D images).
(click for full size)

Next, a direct view stereo pair, although the size makes it difficult to focus on the image and not everyone is capable of seeing these images.
(click for full size)

Finally, an animated GIF. As the objects closer to the camera are too close, they move a lot between photos, so I reduced the GIF to 50%.
ATTENTION: the animation may affect some people that are sensitive to flashing images.

Now, an image that shows the general area and the approximate location (there's no mark for sol 1364, but we can assume it was just after sol 1363's position, where I put a red arrow.
(click for full size)

That arrow is pointing in the direction the camera was pointing (126º counter clockwise from North, according to the photo's metadata and if I'm not mistaken).
We can see the slight hill that shows on the right side of the photo, and by looking at the elevation contour we can see that the low area between the rover's position and the small hill is just 3 metres bellow the rover's position, so hardly a mountain.

But the "figure" is really on a ledge, but a very small one, as we can see on the anaglyph. In fact, I see three ledges on that photo, roughly marked in different colours in the image bellow.

The cyan area is the ledge where the "figure" is, the magenta area marks the ledge of the elevation where the rover is and the yellow area the small hill on the other side.

Looking at the scale on the location image we can get a rough estimation of some 40 metres between the camera and the top of the small hill almost in the centre of the image.

My conclusion: it's on a ledge, but not on a mountain.

As much as I would love it to be the remanence of a lost alien civilization, I'm going with good old Pareidolia.

It's impossible to gauge any real perspective from these images IMHO.

I forgot to post an anaglyph made with the mast camera, which has a better resolution. These are the photos that were used on the panorama.

This one the "statue of a lady" sticks out like a sore thumb at the bottom.

Whatever it is, well done.
