After the shooting in Alabama, the usual cry of more gun control came up. The people who push it are always saying it's for everyone's safety, so I thought we should make a few more laws to really make life safe.

First of all, we need to ban all alcohol. Now, it's pretty simple to make your own, so we need to install breathalyzers on every vehicle. New vehicles will have them built in and older ones have to be retrofitted. You pay out of your own pocket to have it done if you own an older model. You could have a sober friend blow into it, so if you are caught driving drunk, it's an automatic 5 years in prison. No appeal, no parole, you serve the 5.

Street racing has become big in the last few years and people are buying 1000 HP cars like the Demon or Hellcat. Running from the cops is big too and with those overpowered cars, they think it's hilarious to drive 150 and endanger all those folks on the road, so make cars that are limited to 100 HP and electronically limited to go no faster than 70 MPH. No, you can't build your own engine or modify your car. All vehicles have to have it built in or added at the owners expense.

Ban all tobacco. No cigarettes, cigars, pipes or tobacco of any kind.

Ban all fast food.

How about red meat ? They say that's not good for you, so you'll need a special permit to buy it and that will be limited to one 5 oz serving per person/per month.

Ban soft drinks. Hell, ban all sugary drinks and while we're at it, let's just ban all processed sugar or high fructose corn syrup. Candy has to go too. That causes obesity and heart disease.

Just those few things would make everyone healthier and cut down on healthcare costs. You want everyone to be safe and healthy don't you ?

Ban cell phones for anyone under 21. 11 teenagers a day die from texting and driving. Make using your phone while driving punishable with 6 months in jail and a $5,000 fine. You lose your license for 1 year and all this is mandatory minimum.

If you're really concerned about public safety, you should have no problem with these laws being passed, right ?

The hell with your personal freedoms, I mean, we're saving lives here and that's what counts, innit ?

I have an idea! Instead of the focus being on stopping gun ownership, how about we focus on the criminals?

All the money they've thrown at enacting gun legislation over the last few decades would have gone a long way in stopping crime. Instead, they pushed for a nationwide reduction in law enforcement; it's almost like they want crime to increase.

It's really that simple. It's not about reducing crime. It's about disabling the last of the freedom-loving Americans left.

The home is one of the most dangerous places where most injures occur, so ban that. The workplace also has risks, ban that too. Life in general has harm and pain involved at times so just ban all that as well. The only way to have a safe life without any risk is not to have life. If you don't want to die, don't get born.

Doesn't even have to be yearly. I did a little calculation a while back to figure out what fraction of gun owners cause all the unjustified homicides (excluding suicides). It's a few percent. All you would have to do is filter out the worst few percent of the population and the other 97+% could own any weapon they wanted to without a problem. Most nations with high levels of gun ownership that don't also have the problems that we do with gun violence do that. Switzerland. Israel. It's very easy to identify the troublesome individuals with psychological tests like the MMPI (Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory). Hell, the US military uses this kind of testing to filter out the individuals that are not fit for military service because they can't afford to have those nut jobs in their organizations running around with dangerous weapons. Some liberals want to get rid of 100% of all guns. Some conservatives want 100% of the population to have guns all the time. Neither position is realistic and neither one is actually necessary to solve the problem.

It never ceases to amaze me how the US is so stupid about learning from other nations.

Great! You just gave the WEF a brand new way to lock us all up.

Or maybe that's what their doing right now?

I know at least half of us would fail right off the bat.

Yaaay! An idea thread.

You mentioned cars and guns. So for comparison purposes:

1) A cop pulls you over. "License and registration" says the cop. A license to show that you are legal to operate a motor vehicle on the roads. The registration indicates that the car is either yours or you have permission by the owner to drive it, assuming the car has not been reported as stolen.

2) Very few if any states require a license or registration to buy a gun. Add to that states with open carry. Compound that with no permit required for concealed carry. A person can acquire a firearm through theft or on the black market. The cops, when detecting a person carrying a loaded weapon around is left to assume that he is legally in possession. There's nothing he can ask for to verify anything.

Nightmare scenario: Person 1 sees person 2 headed toward a school, carrying an AR or similar rifle with high capacity magazine. Person 1 calls 911 and reports what he sees. 911 operator asks "Is he shooting anybody? Is he destroying property?"

"No." replies person 1.

"In that case, no law is being broken. Stand by, your location has been pinged. Prepare to be arrested for frivolous 911 call."

First of all none of that will fly, it's policial suicide. Their holy grail of gun confiscation is something they throw out there to appease the base - and I'd bet half of them are against it. When you have enough states that are blue, you'll see a constitutional convention to rewrite the whole thing.

As far as guns go do you have any idea how many unregistered long guns there are? I recently bought a Winchester model 12 for cash, arguably the best shottie ever made. Besides which, the magical word "state's rights" will be muttered by the usual suspects.

How about these ideas?....

Let's ban everyone from being able to work for several years because one person has a cold, crushing the world economy in the process.

Oh, wait!

And, let's offer up the only alternative as "volunteering" to be part of untested experimental genetic research.

Oh wait...DAMMIT!

Ban media from reporting politics. 5 years jail so they at least miss the next election. Make it a felony and fine the media companies board of directors 10% of their salary for each infraction.

Ban politicians from accepting donations, same punishment as the above.

Pay politicians the median wage for their state and ban them from benefiting from stock market trading. 5 years jail for both parties if they have someone else do the trading for them.

Guns don't commit crimes though people do. That's why we need real, immediate punishment. Especially for these "mass shootings" where we know the perp is guilty because they were caught in the act by cops. Immediate public livestreamed execution by firing squad. Same with all crimes. Need harsher punishment. Immediate punishment too. People get a slap on the wrist or just sit in jail learning how to be a better criminal. On video surveillance stealing from a store? Bye bye hand. Do it again? Now you have no hands, makes it harder to steal. Of course we livestream all this punishment. Mess with a kid? Drawn and quartered on live TV.

I think crimes would go down a lot if there were real punishments and very public punishments.

Come on, USA can handle a mass shoting once in a while... Those lifes lost have become worthless political fodder anyway...

What woukd you fuss about without them Americans proving that your gun laws work like a charm...

What's next offices using computers to keep track of data. How dare you...

I guess that tree of freedom is well watered with the blood of innocents. It's a win win for the Staus quo...

It's called the American dream because you have to be asleep to believe it... Don't wake up!

Yeah david, you think your being funny.

But do you realize they are actually talking about putting breathalyzers in new cars?
Linky

So, I will never own a new car when that happens.
Not because I drink and drive. I don't.

But because it is bullsnipe.

funny timing this, but here we go with the nanny state rubbish again link The trouble with this kind of rubbish (as you can see in the comments at the base of the article) is it generally amounts to "Banning stuff I dont do or like much" as, for every statement about smoking, you could make one about boxing, or rugby or motorsport.

The psycho's at the top of the heap will still get away from it and they need it the most. Corruption is more the problem and that is the system so the kids are doing what kids with money from illicit activities and fancy toys do when there is no real law, they do wild ass things
