OhOh !!

The Teamsters Union says they will NOT BE endorsing any Presidential Candidate for 2024 !!

Big "tell" reason:

“We sought commitments from both Trump and Harris not to interfere in critical union campaigns or core Teamster industries – and to honor our members’ right to strike – but were unable to secure those pledges,” O’Brian stated.

Now why won't the Kamala Kampaign commit to Union simple requests?? Think about WHY 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

AND, very interesting stats from The Teamsters themselves:

Prior to dropping out of the race, Teamsters polls showed members supported Biden with 44.3% as opposed to Trump’s 36.3%, however that number has since flipped when Harris entered the race, with a 58% majority of members supporting Trump over the 31% support for Kamala.

The International Brotherhood of Teamsters has announced that they will not endorse a candidate in the presidential election.

“The Teamsters are America’s largest, most diverse union. In 1903, the Teamsters started as a merger of the two leading team driver associations. These drivers were the backbone of America’s robust economic growth, but they needed to organize to wrest their fair share from greedy corporations. Today, the Union’s task is exactly the same,” the group’s website states.

The last time Teamsters didn’t issue an endorsement was back in 1996.

Sean O’Brien, the Teamsters’ general president argued that “neither candidate was able to make serious commitments to our union to ensure the interests of working people are always put before Big Business.”

Despite the majority of union members supporting former President Donald Trump in a recent poll, the union claimed that the poll did not provide “universal support” upon its membership to justify an official endorsement.

Why wouldn't Kamal just make another empty promise and then renig? Do teamsters still use cement overshoes when doublecrossed?

Awwww...Dems won't be able to take advantage of that big teamsters 'Get Out The Vote' drive in those crucial states this year.

The members all support Trump.

But the union can't endorse him without facing blue State law-fare repercussions.

The Teamsters president should have had a backbone and endorsed who the rank and file supported more, which is Trump.

The International Brotherhood of Teamsters announced it would not endorse a candidate in the 2024 presidential election, ending months of speculation about whether the labor union would back Republican Donald Trump or Democrat Kamala Harris.
The non-endorsement is a break from the union's decadeslong tradition of backing Democratic candidates.
Teamsters President Sean O'Brien had signaled in July that the union was open to endorsing Trump when he delivered a speech on the first night of the Republican National Convention.

Every time a labor union is in the news, it's said to be "the biggest". Is the "Teamsters" really the biggest?

Cue the “teamsters are racist and sexist and a violent and antiquated instrument of the patriarchy” crowd.

Thank-you. Every time I see "Teamsters union", I think "Jimmy Hoffa". I think he was their leader, but had to go hide on an Island or someplace due to corruption?

NOT endorsing KAMALA is huge..

Despite the immense support for Trump, the union opted not to make an endorsement this year.

“The Teamsters thank all candidates for meeting with members face-to-face during our unprecedented roundtables,” said Union President Sean O’Brien in a release.

“Unfortunately, neither major candidate was able to make serious commitments to our union to ensure the interests of working people are always put before Big Business,” he added.

While Trump does not have the benefit of a formal endorsement, the lack of endorsement for Harris is disastrous, considering the Teamsters have backed the Democratic presidential nominee in every race since 1996. Then-President Bill Clinton lost the Teamsters’ support that year due to the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) after having their backing in 1992. The union abstained from supporting any candidate in 1996.

While that non-endorsement was about a specific policy, this year’s announcement is more similar to the union’s rejection of the 1988 Democratic presidential nominee, Michael Dukakis.

As the International council declined to endorse either candidate, the local councils have started making their own endorsements. Here's where we are at today.

Harris had earned the endorsement of Teamsters Joint Council 43 in Michigan, Teamsters Joint Council 39 in Wisconsin, and Teamsters Joint Council 7 and Joint Council 42, which represent 300,000 members across California, Hawaii, Guam and battleground Nevada.

And previously:

Teamsters Joint Councils and locals in Washington state, Idaho and Alaska, Philadelphia, Miami, western Pennsylvania, and elsewhere had already offered their endorsement of Harris prior to Wednesday

In August, the Teamsters’ National Black Caucus endorsed Harris after its chairman condemned Teamsters General President Sean O’Brien for making overtures to Trump and speaking at the Republican National Convention

Fair points all around.

Now. In your humble position and opinion (based on your knowledge of US unions) does the Teamsters ruling as a whole overshadow them based on this being unprecedented going back decades?

Yes or no?

There seems to be some disconnect between the top and the members. The President obviously endorses Trump. I read the poll was 21,000 members. I will look for that link. If that 58% number we are reading is only a select few of the total members, and in actuality they realize that the majority of the "lower" members view Harris more favorably, but the " top" members publicy are already all in for Trump, then it would cause a problem with the choice to endorse Trump, but would cause a problem for the Teamsters President/top members to endorse Harris and have to face the ire of Trump and Maga since he already publicly spoke at RNC.

If we're just talking endorsements, it will be interesting to see how many of the state ones, similar to the ones noted in my post go for either candidate. I'll take a look to see what I can find for both.

But no, I don't think anything is an "overshadow". Again, there seems to be some disconnect if neither candidate was picked by the top members of the union and the others had to make their own endorsements because they feel they are not being heard by their leaders.

As a member of 2 unions, i can tell you this:

Those of us not in union management positions are all Trump. It is union leaders who are Kamp Kamala.

This is another example of union leadership ignoring the membership.
