2.7 quake 0.8km above ground USGS event

0.8km air burst explosion registered on USGS. They're saying it would of had to pass over the Naval base at Bremerton, west of Seattle if it was a missile strike.

Interesting as it could be serving a warning from our chum Vlad in the light of the stormshadow being allowed to strike further inside Russia... Got to say, the picture of Two Tier Kier with all of his "yes-people-bum-buddies" irks me, the twat.

Most likely a meteor but, it *could* be something else...waiting to find more info.....

Not trying to pop the bubble, but a 2.7 magnitude at very shallow depth listed as "other event" is almost always a preliminary designation for an explosion underground, or a collapse quake in underground mine tunnels from a surface explosion. Likely mining related. They can reach the mid 2 range. 2.7 is the higher end, but usually the case when you see this.

USGS shows it at a depth of .8 kilometers.......not above ground


They have updated it, now it shows a depth of -.4 kilometers

Go with explosion. At some point they'll likely change this to match others on this list.



ETA:

Don't get tripped up on the depth. Focal/Hyocentral depth is determined by measuring the difference in time it takes sP and pP waves to reach the seismogram. The depth is from the elevation at the surface at the epicenter. Sea level is negligible.

Is 'ground' measured as sea level or actual ground level in the specific region as it looks a hilly area - there is a huge asteroid set to pass by in the coming hours so could also be small debris from that.

Are there any quarries, construction or mining that might have been blasting...although USGS usually labels known blasting with a different symbol.

None that I am aware of of that are currently active. There are a few really old mines in the area, but a collapse or explosion in one I doubt would show up at 1400'
