It's a bad idea at once. The shock of a 5 dollar wage increase in CA took about 4 months to recover, weeded out failing places, but has mostly recovered now. Help wanted signs are everywhere food service again.

7.25 to 15.00 would be disastrous in some places.

There is a way to do it. If Kamala proposes a slow incremental increase it would mirror what many other states did, both red and blue.

Arizona went from 7.90 to 14.35 in 10 years, (2014-2024). California was still 8.00 in 2014, and has doubled to 16.00 in the same amount of time. Those increases aren't dissimilar.

You could raise minimum to 15.00 by 2030 in an accelerated model in many states. Maybe sooner.

ETA:

HOW CALIFORNIA SOCIALISM WORKS*

Now a Fast Food employee working 40 hours can afford rent on their own, even in expensive cities.

Local AMI is $119,500, 50% AMI is generally the cutoff. So that McDonalds employee making 35-42k at minimum wage is most certainly under 50% AMI for a single person household. So not only do they get 20/hour, they can still qualify for reduced rent, usually set somewhere around 30% their gross income. Almost guaranteed if under the 35% AMI mark. Now they can get a market value $1,800 studio for about $1,000. Likely also receiving EBT and CalMed.

All made possible by making the wealthiest residents, and corporations foot the bill in higher taxes. Suprisingly, the millionaire/covid exodus reversed and we're getting the progressive urbanite Millennial/Gen Z people moving here.

Here's the communist chart they use to determine assistance:

Wages to consumer prices will always stay parallel and relevant to each other. I think you’re overlooking that fact. You can raise minimum wage to $25 an hour and a burger at Micky D’s is then going to cost you $25-30 for just a burger. The game is rigged has been forever although now the corporations are expecting even more profit margin gains. Something I’ve said for decades since I was right out of HS is that greed will be our demise. I don’t think we’re far off. At the rate we’re going we will see the US collapse in the not so distant future. Socialism/communism is there fix. We’ll have nothing and like it.

To even exist in CA cost around a $100k+ a year. I have friends all over CA and I lived in LA for many years so I can totally relate to what they’re telling me. I worked for the film industry for years back in the 80’s n 90’s making good money and couldn’t afford to buy a house there without moving to Simi Valley or Palmdale and commuting a 1 1/2-2 hours one way to the studios in LA. That was with little traffic. Just saying we’re pricing ourselves out of existence.

Two months have elapsed since California mandated a $20 per hour minimum wage for fast food workers and up to $23 for healthcare aides. Already, the fallout is palpable: over 10,000 layoffs, shuttered eateries, and the specter of automation looming large as companies like Jack in the Box pivot towards robotic solutions, likely of foreign manufacture.

The ramifications extend beyond employment figures. With a fourth price hike in two years, Chipotle contemplates a 9% surcharge across its Californian outlets. Such inflationary pressures strike a chord in low-income communities, where fast food is not a luxury but a staple, and the enrichment of commercial districts hangs in the balance.

…and you know who’s paying for all that #? Sounds to me like you think socialism in America is a good thing, it’s a guaranteed fail, there will be no middle class anymore. You seriously think we’ll continue to succeed as a country when most everyone is sucking on the govs teat? Hell no, it’s not sustainable.

Every single person I know in CA wants out except one who can’t move because of his business being tied to the film industry. But he hates it there and finds it’s more unaffordable every year. CA has the highest tax rate in the country.

Using CA as some successful business model is a joke because it’s failing spectacularly. Companies are bailing and new ones aren’t moving there and taking their places. It’s a failed example of things to come.

I guess it depends on the city.

I see nothing but growth and development. 10-20 new high-rise buildings a year in multiple areas, and new businesses opening in many of the covid-caused vacancies. Especially since many of the homeless were forcibly housed. Lots of San Fransisco and Seattle transplants moving in.

I am not feeling this impact of our failing state economy, and I'm a restaurant/bar worker that was indefinitely laid off during covid and was forced to do App delivery. Which was good, but a lateral move more or less pay-wise.

And California is fine so long as people move here. We need a positive growth rate for a budget surplus under our model.

The Golden State grew by 67,000 people, or 0.17%, last year, to just over 39.1 million on Jan. 1, 2024, according to a demographic report released April 30 by the California Department of Finance.

Same number of people net-transplanted as 2019.

I think people just want a reason to bitch and blame democrats and love to see democrat socialism trending models fail. Maybe exaggerated by anger their candidate lost. Like that made everything anger people (already opposed) that much more. Making mountains out of molehills.

Oh noes, gas prices of 7.00/gallon! Milk of $4.79/gallon! It was just TOTAL SUFFERING! 3rd world suffering! At least inflation waited for the jobs to return.

And, of course California applies to this in excess.

But we are reopen for your California Dreams again! This year's projected growth is expected to be higher than the 2019 rate of growth which lead to the massive surplus. Well take the migrants too.

Crazy isn’t it? lol. I remember when the dems made all the stink about him going to NK to talk to rocket man. In what universe is it a bad thing to meet with your adversaries to maybe cool tensions? Oh no, they’re screaming the sky is falling.🙄
