Numerous’ people shot in ‘active shooter’ situation on highway near small town in Kentucky

"Numerous persons" have been shot in an "active shooter" situation on Interstate 75 near exit 49 just north of London, Kentucky, the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office said Saturday evening.

The sheriff’s office said the highway was closed near the exit, which is nine miles north of London.

Police are still searching for the suspect, Reuters reported.

Not enough information....was the shooter in a vehicle? I suspect not since they are still looking for the shooter.

Last I read the shooter was shooting form a wooded area and evaded police through the same area and terrain.

Here’s what we know so far about the I-75 London, Kentucky shooter

- Officials say an unknown individual opened fire from an elevated position along I-75 in Laurel County, KY

- Several vehicles were struck by gunfire, with at least five confirmed victims

- Dispatch reported that The victims were shot through their windshields."

- The suspect remains at large they are calling him Armed and dangerous

- Authorities are urging people to stay inside

I heard some chatter about heading to a power line where they found an suv and that this is maybe where he’s coming out.

Also heard “this individual just purchased an ar15 this morning with 2000 rounds”

Our local and county police now encrypt their transmissions mainly because of the information that was being put out like names SSN's and other stuff. Secondary reason was people were listening and then driving there to see it for themselves

We've had 63 people shot on Chicago highways so far this year...102 in 2023. Just driving along minding their own business, like in Kentucky today.

Suspects name is Joseph Couch, 32.......police do not know his current location.

So far 7 injured none are dead. They have reopened the highway as of now, youtu.be...

This is so tragic and senseless but I've half expected it.

Unless my memory is completely failing me there was also a lot of gun violence along the lines of what were seeing that ramped up just before the 2020 elections leading me to think the Biden administration would make abolishing the 2A his main priority.

I'll be anxious to hear what this mentally ill guy's motive was.

My first impulse is to take the British route and say "Another day in America..."

But yours is a reminder of just how many violent incidents DO NOT end up in the news at all!

I've worked in some of the most dangerous areas of Chicago, and in places like Scary, Indiana. People have no clue what a 3rd world war zone some places are, because it's not "newsworthy."

I just left Albuquerque, NM faster than you can blink because of how ridiculous the drugged out homeless tweaker situation is.

Californians smile and walk right over their own situations blocking it all out with rose-colored sunglasses.

I guess my point is like yours, there's even more inhumanity going on that doesn't even make the news. It's almost like some producer (politician maybe?) decides what makes the print and what makes the cutting room floor.

Really sad that everywhere is rife with drugs and/ or violence. Feeling more and more hopeless the more I go out and see for myself what the news doesn't show us.
