Ireland Versus England. Not looking Forward To This One

Both teams have a new manager.

I think our lad was Iceland's manager when they were a bit decent a few years ago. His last job was manager of Jamaica.
But England team is on a different level to ours.

I admire Lee Carsley's reason for not singing the national anthem. He never did as a player, for us, because he was so concentrated on the game he said singing for a minute would have been a distraction.

Ive a horrible nasty gut feeling its a 4-0 England, minimum.

Anyhow, gotta support my country.

Hope you didn't put any money on the final score.

Yeah we appreciated that.

Grealish can go ....

I dont like watching our team anymore and after last night im not going to. We just dont have the players.

Gone are the days when a lot of premier league players were Irish.

Well done England.

Probably the first England game for a lot of years that I barely watched. It was on in pub but I only looked up when someone mentioned we had scored.

Carsley did a good job with the U21's and seems to have his own ideas etc.
We'll see how they develop.

The Republic's team is not a patch on some of those of the past, not sure why that is.
Perhaps just the cyclic nature of football?

Not many top players anymore playing in the top league, the premiership.

Back in the day there weren't that many foreign players, so a lot of Irish, Scots and Welsh were playing.

Im looking at a jersey right now from USA '94.

And in Italia '90 we made the QF's, got beaten by Italy 1-0.

Roy Keane infamously had a hissy fit and returned home from Sai-Pan 2002. We were confident that tournament of making the QF fairly easily. Our side of the draw was good for us. We had Keano, Damien Duff, Robbie Keane, Shay Given, Richard Dunne. And more. Then Keano went home made a big thing of it. He was right, but its the WC and we had half a chance ffs.

Im not watching us anymore its painful and ive no interest in pain anymore.

Out of interest how many of the Irish squad actually play professionally in Ireland?

No idea, probably none.

Although they do get to play in friendlys, especially with the last manager Stephen Kenny.

Irish soccer is nowhere near the level of even the English first division.

Gaelic football is our most popular sport.

Then rugby

Then its either hurley or football.
