"The arrest of ‘Russia’s Zuckerberg’, Pavel Durov."

"The headline in a Russian newspaper summed up the story:
“The arrest (or detention) of ‘Russia’s Zuckerberg’, Pavel Durov,
is one of the most important, but mysterious global news stories,
” declared Nezavisimaya Gazeta."

"Why did French police detain him? What charges will he face?
Has it anything at all to do with his recent visit to Azerbaijan,
where he met (or didn’t meet) Russian President Vladimir Putin?"
www.bbc.co.uk...

Why? They let slip!
“Telegram might become a tool of Nato, if Pavel Durov is forced to
obey the French intelligence services,” declared Moskovsky Komsomolets, adding:
“Telegram chats contain a huge amount of vitally important, strategic information.”

In April 2018, the Russian authorities began blocking access to Telegram,
only to lift the ban in 2020. Today, not only do Russian officials use the messenger,
but so does the Russian military, including soldiers fighting in the so-called
"Special Military Operation" (Russia’s war in Ukraine)."

So NATO & US Will take control by ALL means.
To get access to Russian military "Special Military Operation"!
they DO kill and comprise people.

This is a Very serious!
You can now openly SEE how the goverments work.
and that we Do Not have any true freedom.

There Paranoia and lust for war,
and useing it to controle the people with frear.
and to make a great deal of Money from it.

They Must be stop,t.
Stop All the Paranoia, Fear & Racial Hate that They propagate.
Look at what is hapening with immigration.
They bring them IN to sow discord and chaos.

It only takes a little search and you find these kinds of quotes.

He was reportedly arrested as part of an investigation into Telegram’s content moderation practices, with investigators believing the messaging app—which has over 950 million users—hasn’t mitigated criminal users or properly cooperated with law enforcement when the app is used for drug trafficking, child sexual content and fraud.

I think it's long over due.
If these billionares are allowing things like child sexual content to spread on their sites then they should be held accountable. The owners making billions off social media need to be held accountable for what they allow on their sites.
People go on and on about free speech. Is allowing and promoting child porn, and drug trafficing free speech?

I know that without "Telegram" Russian forces would be to be hard-pushed to communicate with each other in secret.

And they must be stopped.

No two ways about it.

As to why Pavel Durov was arrested at an airport outside Paris.

Seems like he's accused of complicity in illegal online behavior and refusing to disclose information to the authorities.

No drug trafficking and child porn are not free speech.

And no one said they were on either “side” of the American thought paradigm.

Everyone agrees that both of those activities are wholly bad and you can eliminate them while maintaining free speech and the ability to call a spade a spade.

But your logic is as flawed in my opinion as attempting to go after gun manufacturers for damages caused by a firearm. When the blame lies solely and fully with the individual who “pulled the trigger” or used the tool for its unlawful and unintended purpose.

Charging this man for what others have done on his platform is retarded and the biggest miscarriage of justice. The police are simply incapable of stopping the real perpetrators online and must then hang someone so as to appear that they doing there jobs while completely ignoring the root cause or the makers of said grotesque imagines.

Its like attacking the guy who made paper because bad things have been put on paper at one time or another.

It's your logic that flawed here.
He owns and runs a site that allows child porn and other illegal activities, so should be held accountable.
If someone owned a book shop and found out child porn was being sold, and did nothing to remove it. it would be shut down and the owner prosecuted. How is this any different?
The billionare owner/moron has been approached about poor moderation/ allowing illegal activity on his site and did nothing, I hope he gets what he deserves.

There is a legal term called "...accessory to a crime."
That works for me. And actually, I would apply it to Mr Face Book also.

Seems to me any social media site found to be hosting or promoting material of such a despicable nature needs to be stopped.

If they refuse to moderate the place appropriately it equates to a form of complicity.

Your anology is flawed here. But using it, you would prosecute Sir Tim Berners-Lee who created the web, which isn't what I'm saying. It's the people using his creation to make social media apps and not taking responsability for their creation and the contents posted on it.

It's not the creater of paper you go after. It's the back street book maker who's using it promote illegal content.

Well then.

By that logic we better take down Discord for helping to facilitate a coordinated assassination attempt on Trump.

Absolutely.

Unfortunately it’s inherent in every social media platform whether one wants to admit it or not.

It’s human behavior ad infintum.

I guess Zuck wants to profess his love of Free Speech with his latest mea culpa.

Seems odd. But what do I know. I guess if you play the game and twist the algorithm when Big Brother twists your arm certain entities affiliated with law, international or otherwise look the other way.

Still.

Look at how they went after Silk Road and threw him life sentences for shirking the tax law or some such BS.

Seems to me that's a bit of a stretch.

"It was rarely utilized, has not been used in months, and we have found no evidence that it was used to plan this incident, promote violence, or discuss his political views," the spokesperson said. "Discord strongly condemns violence of any kind, including political violence, and we will continue to coordinate closely with law enforcement."

Can you provide proof that "Discord" helped facilitate the assassination attempt?

Or is that your mere opinion?

Also, would the daft failed assassin not have the likes of other social media accounts?

Why just "Discord"?

I dont use the place much if I'm honest, created an account when ATS went down last time.

As far as I'm aware "Discord" is moderated and the moderator's overall role is to ensure that the server is a safe, healthy environment for everyone.

They seriously discourage and report the likes of drug dealing and child pornography and its against the TnC of the site to post such content.

If only "Telegram" could claim the same Pavel Durov might not be in this mess.

Yes yes.

And him at the shooting range where a bunch of US goons trained is also nothing to note. Nor was the cremating of his body. Or the connection to Belgium. Or him being in the crosshairs for minutes.

Anyway. I doubt Telegram would want to claim they were involved with the shooter and that he had an account.

Good Lord.

I thought this was ATS. Ya know, a conspiracy site.

ETA: you act like WhatsApp and its encryptions isn’t suspect at all. I mean hell, why just Durov? Why not one fell swoop instead of the shot across the bow for Free Speech?

So just an opinion.

Fair play you are allowed to have those.

The people who arrested Pavel Durov regarding his social media site's complicity in illegal online behavior.

And refusal to disclose information to the appropriate authorities.

Are apt to have more than just mere opinions SteamyAmerican.

They will be armed with evidence and facts to support the arrest.

End of the day i think we both know why they are choosing to go after the likes of "Telegram" at this time.

But if Pavel Durov is silly enough to give them enough rope..............

ETA: you act like WhatsApp and its encryptions isn’t suspect at all. I mean hell, why just Durov? Why not one fell swoop instead of the shot across the bow for Free Speech?

Do i, show me where i act like anything of the sort?

They are going after the fellow because they can, and because his site hosts some very spurious people that choose to share illegal kiddie porn and sell drugs, which apparently Telegram refuses to moderate appropriately or report to authorities.

Any site caught hosting that sort of material or content should be held to account, dont care who they are, or where they are located.

Stands to rhyme and reason by my guess.

As to why not in "one fell swoop", why not indeed.

But the logistics, manpower required, and the size of the holes in the net spring to mind, as unfortunate as the case may be.

Here’s an opinion for ya.

In the world we reside of influencers, deep-fakes, and AI do you think it’s a stretch to perpetrate someone as an evil-doer because they buck the status quo?

In other words government has mandated all the big players like Apple and Microsoft allow your devices to be backdoored; meaning any 13 year old black hat can upload child pornography to you and yours in the blink of an eye and ruin your life because you make a stand against TPTB.

Y’aint gotta be a Durov.

Hell that was 20-30 years ago. Before that beat cops beat folks up and placed drugs on the “dealers” they wanted caput and forced confessions. Still do. Nothing new.

In YOUR own country they’re letting foreign child rapists out of jail to make room for native wrong-thinkers.

So yeah. In your rose-colored utopia where cops are the good guys and government has out best interest at heart I’d be right there with you. In all honesty.

100%

Yet to say otherwise that Durov should get the clinker because of “complicity” while others chow on lobster and aren’t being drowned on their yachts yet, is naive mate.

But thanks for playing. And I do agree anyone engaging in such nefarious and despicable behavior should enjoy the rest of their hideous lives behind bars. Or worse.

ETA: the problem with evidence, is it’s a lot like a tree falling with no one around. In other words. They can “produce” what they need on a dime or drop of a hat if you will. And then sometimes when they do have it, they “don’t”

Just look at the documents Trump possessed vs. Biden.

See how that works….?

You think, i think, cops are the good guys. LoL

I think Police are a necessary evil without such both our respective nations would tear themselves apart at the seams.

As to the rest of the diatribe....................

Now back on topic, if Pavel Durov company "Telegram" or himself is found to have been complicit.

Where the likes of hosting child pornography or promoting the sale of illicit drugs are concerned.

Via refusal to moderate the site appropriately or report those sorts of people to authorities.

He and they deserve all the have coming, and should indeed be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

Im glad we are on the same page where beastie bastards are concerned, because they deserve no quarter or mercy.

Same with those who enable them, no matter who or where they are.

Edit:

Has nothing to do with MAGA. Double-standards are what they are bud. I don’t make the rules nor do I care for Trump.

As for enablers….

Those kiddie-diddlers being let out of UK prisons to make way for those that speak their minds online, well, it says a lot about the world we live in now doesn’t it?

Durov wasn’t playing ball so they threw the book at him.

As for Gates, Zuck, Bezos, and Musk, they better hope the checks clear and the gates stay unlocked.

Know what I’m saying?

If you say so, i would point out the thread is not about Trump nor American politics, which you seem to feel the need to make it about.

I do apologise all the same if I happened to label you as something you are not, my bad there.

That's what's called hyperbole and hysteria on your part but i dont agree with people being imprisoned for saying their piece.

There is however a big difference between free speech and hate speech, same as it's illegal to incite violence or incite such via promoting lies.

Durov wasn’t playing ball so they threw the book at him.

And that seems to have equated to not moderating a site where kiddie fiddlers and drug dealers sold their nefarious wares and products.

They threw the book at him because he allowed the pages to be filled in by beasts SteamyAmerican.

If they get caught promoting the sale of illicit class-A drugs on their websites.

Or punting evil depraved pedophilia and snuff movies i say put them in the same cell and make sure it's on a genpop wing.

Point taken. I’m not making it about American politics either. But I see what you’re saying.

What I AM saying is the world seems to define hate speech different across the pond. Something that offends someone shouldn’t be hate speech. That’s Free Speech.

And that definition is narrowing to make it resemble hate speech when it is certainly not.

Hate speech is something vitriolic and vile inherently different.

In fact my favorite part about being American is telling it to “F Off!” when it sucks. And we suck a lot lately this decade.

In other words, I may hate whatever dumb, racist, sexist filth you spew, but I’ll defend your right to say it until I die. But I will not agree or accept it. That’s your choice.

Violence is where I draw my line. Not hurt feelz.

I know it may be confusing. It can be for sure

But when bending over backwards to make others feel better is the new normal, and one has to shut up and stay inside and offline for fear of repercussion, well that isn’t a world I like at all.

But I’ll say there is a reason Irish and English, Protestant and Catholics are marching together and leave it at that, lest the constables come for me wagging their fingers.

I’ll stay dissenting and be a dissident if that’s the case.

No. Violent criminals and sex offenders (eg kiddie fiddlers) are automatically excluded from the scheme:
