The UK is preparing for the death of Larry the cat.

www.independent.co.uk...

The cat, who was adopted from Battersea Cats Home, was first brought into Downing Street by David Cameron as a pet for his children and has since outlasted five prime ministers.

I thought this going to be an about King Chuck's dire cancer prognosis.

I'd much rather read about the cat.

17 years old.
Is that old for a cat?
It certainly would be for a dog.

Yes it is quite old. Our Jones lived to 21 and Muffett to 20. Which is unusual.

Respect to Larry,he is the only creature worthy to live in that street IMO.

At least he serves a useful purpose and doesn't make it his job to suck the joy out of the lives of the public unlike the "humans" that live there.

It's roughly the equivalent of an 84 year old human... still just a spring chicken.

Cat to human age conversion

During their first year, each cat year is equivalent to 15 human years. The second year adds 9 human years. After that, each additional year is approximately 4 human years.

LOL so the poor thing isn't a good mouser?

According to the last lines of the article anyway.

I thought most "indoor" cats, lived to be 20 or more, while the "outdoor" or mix of lived slightly less?

We have an indoor that is 18 right now, still mean and hateful as ever.

Glad to read he isn't quite on his "deathbed" yet.

Pretty cat though.

Here's one of him I saved a few years ago... just going over the minutes of the next Cabinet meeting.

Even just sat on a table doing nothing,he is still doing more good than the others who sit at that table.

I am actually surpised they let him in the building looking like that-
Those colours around his neck ususally trigger the people who "work" there.

He probably holds the key to the wine cellar... so, he can do as he bloody pleases.

I've always wondered if that cat ever gets scanned for devices that could've been implanted. He's got the run of the area (I assume) or perhaps restricted to the street...but I reckon a 'roaming free' cat, homed in government rooms, is perfect for intercepting, and then bugging!

I would get him checked for surveilance equipment, defo.
He could be one of the CIAs "accoustic kitties."
en.wikipedia.org...

The project didn't go well-for the first cat at least-but that was back in the 1960s,so they have had plenty of time to get it right.

Larry the cat sure lasted longer than Biden's dogs Commander, Major and Champ.

The key to Larry's longevity must be not biting security personnel and not showering with the Prime Minister.

Omg I'm assuming devices are much improved since the 60's, I'm imagining invasive surgery reading that link now!

Interesting that the difficulty/impossibility of training cats, put a stop to the efforts, but Larry doesn't need training to go home...just need to briefly kidnap him for a 21st Century implant!🤣

Surviving Boris probably took it's toll.

Larry's a handsome guy! The bow tie is very tasteful. Parsley the Ambassador Cat of Oban is a riot. Not sure if the Prime Minister has ever had to call a cab for Larry cause he was out Pubbing? Parsley's owner did. More than once.

Guessing Larry's security officer having to trail him clubbing may have been too expensive?
Unless Larry's a tea totaler?

Sad to hear he's winding down.

LOL!

When Larry saw Boris's hair he probably thought BJ had brought his own cat.

I have always thought when BJ went to bed he'd put a bowl of milk down for his "hair"!

Same with DJT!
