Well ... we certainly are in a pickle.
And socialist President Harris (I just vomited a little) will certainly make matters worse.
We need to be funding and upgrading our military, and expanding our military.
Instead we close bases and under fund and under recruit.
It's national suicide.

Congressional Panel Warns American Military Is No Longer “Prepared” to Fight in a Major War

The U.S. military is no longer “prepared” to fight in a major war, according to a new study conducted by a congressional panel.

Though the threats the U.S. is facing are “the most serious and most challenging” it has seen in almost a century, the U.S. defense base is not equipped to meet the moment, according to a report from the Commission on the National Defense Strategy published on Monday. Among the biggest problems outlined in the report are a troubled Pentagon and a failure by the federal government to properly address threats emanating from adversaries like China and Russia.

“The United States last fought a global conflict during World War II, which ended nearly 80 years ago. The nation was last prepared for such a fight during the Cold War, which ended 35 years ago. It is not prepared today,” the commission’s report reads. “The United States is still failing to act with the urgency required, across administrations and without regard to governing party. This report proposes a new approach to spur the speed and scale of change.”

The congressionally established and bipartisan commission, made up of high-level defense and national security experts, is tasked with assessing the U.S. defense strategies and providing recommendations to Congress and the Pentagon. The most current report from the commission was created in part by the RAND Corporation, which provided “analytic, administrative, editorial, and publication support.”

Not at all, in how many wars could the U.S. do it all alone?

That's generally what happens during peacetime. We also weren't prepared to fight a major war at the start of WWII. That's why there was a herculean mobilization effort.

As it stands right now, we have the largest defense budget on the world several times over. If the Pentagon can't effectively and efficiently use the money the have, maybe the issue isn't the amount of money and is instead those people at the Pentagon whose job it is to spend the money effectively and efficiently.

Typical selfish left wing reply.

Countries should take care of their own military needs and keep up with them as much as possible. Countries shouldn't expect others to take up the slack. Countries shouldn't have to rely on others for the bulk of their own security. Only if a country can't ... then it should look to allies for help. In this case, America CAN take care of itself but it willfully chooses not to. There is no excuse for that.

Self sufficiency. Not laziness.

And only a mindless idiot would rely on Turkey (lead by mad man Erdogan) and other NATO countries to take care of them ... putting your fate into the hands of others ... when you have the capacity to take care of it yourself.

There is no good excuse for America not taking care of it's own military needs. We are wasting billions of $$ on foreign wars and foreign 'relief' ... but our own country suffers. Disgusting.

What is disgusting is your incessant labeling of other members here when you are losing a discussion.

You are left wing. That's not labeling. That's stating a fact. You proudly proclaim all the left wing talking points and are 'incessant' about how your left wing position is superior to all others.

And no, I'm not 'losing a discussion'. You are delusional.

It's always best if a country can take care of it's own needs. It shouldn't have to rely on others to take care of it's needs for them. Especially when it comes to defense. It is NICE to have NATO allies, but to hand over our defense readiness to them is INSANITY .. and it's also being lazy and it's mooching ... something the left thrives on, making others do the heavy lifting for you and taking what belongs to others.

There is no excuse for America not being ready to go to war. None. We waste money on foreign wars and foreign 'relief', that should be spent here at home taking care of our own citizens and our own defense needs.

It is abject stupidity to downsize the military and to defund it. It is suicide not to have the equipment and manpower ready. The world is at war. We are at war. The cold war with Russia ended, but a new one is on. We are at war with Russia and China and Iran. If we show any weakness, they will pounce. And right now we are weak.

Peace through strength. And we are not strong. And it's moronic to be this way.

I think it started to really decline during the Clinton administration. That’s when the big push to downsize happened.

This isn't a question of the US' defensive capabilities. The simple fact of the matter is that outside of a nuke exchange, the US mainland is secure. No countries or alliance of countries have the capability to launch a successful invasion of the US.

The question is whether or not the US could sustain something akin to a WWII invasion of Europe. And, we probably couldn't. But that ultimately comes comes down to us having a peacetime economy.

And quintessentone's mention of NATO is relevant. In a large scale, WWII style war, we would be relying on our NATO allies to shore up or deficiencies. Just like we relied on the Allies in WWII.

making diversity, equity, and inclusion paramount in a merit based system will destroy it, as it was intended to do. The sooner we get the military back to training to fight wars we hope never happen, the sooner we can get back to the business of peace. Peace through strength. Those who have served, understand this much better.

Unless ...! We start using all the long range-we-aint-even-there weapons in our arsenal.

Since Kennedy..we keep hearing, seeing, getting wind of black-project weaponry....yet...we never use them.

I agree with you...I think as a mobile MANNED force...we ain't got nothin.

Israeli women train, Iranian women too etc etc. Here? Could you see one of our teenager girls drop there cells as the enemy CLIMBS the wall to kill them?

In that case...man-woman # wise..we ARE screwed...but what about all the explanations, weaponry, secret stuff they've always told us is necessary to develop? We just look at the Black Ledger n go "ok".

So? Man wise...we're not capable of marching en masse...anywhere. Then? Where's that tax provided weaponry they've told us 60+;yrs we need in case of?

Thnx FF. This always did but the crap outta me.

Best, MS

This makes as much sense as paper towel math. You know, where 6 rolls = 11 rolls?

We were told over the past three years that when we were giving nearly $100 billion in "obsolete" weapons to Ukraine, and that we taxpayers would be on the hook for that money, which would be used to upgrade our "obsolete" hardware. This, above and beyond the allotted defense budget. So, our military should have brand spanking new, top of the line equipment, and plenty of it.

Recruitment problems? Well, sure, Obama, Biden, the DHS, and the FBI have been denigrating what used to be the core of the recruiting pool: straight, white, patriotic Americans. And I suppose it's kind of discouraging to see illegal immigrants getting taxpayer funded government handouts while our veterans have to rely on private charities. But you would think that the new LBGQT+ friendly military would attract enough gays and trannies to cover the slack. I mean, 81 million people voted for Joe Biden. Surely, they would be willing to go to war for him. They don't have a problem destroying things and killing people here in the US, they should be salivating at the chance to destroy and kill in other countries. Without guns, of course, because gun violence is bad.

So, we should have plenty of advanced weapons and plenty of violent men in dresses to wage war. As soon as they get their hair and makeup right.

I think this Congressional Panel is trying to gaslight us.

American military should be focused on protecting domestic population and assets. If the UN requires disposable minions they should knock on someone else's door and make them sacrifice their able bodied youths for the war profiteering and globalist agenda. The other option is sending 18 million immigrants who desperately want to prove their dedication as newly minted Americans.

A lot of us in the country have been concerned about this for a while. We are sending lots of weapons to Ukraine which is lessening our stock of weapons. On top of that, it will still be a few more years till we can get our infrastructure back up to fulfill our stocking of these new weapons that we gave away thatwe will need to fight a bigger war.

This was known for a few years now, and this makes us way more susceptible to having more casualties in a war which will result in a way worse outcome for America. Biden blew all this off. I think the factories will be starting to boost production next years, but materials are also a problem. The Biden administration seems to be more focused on making sure technology for these new weapons is being done here than all the elements of the weapons themselves.

It will keep getting worse till the newly developing factories start to get fully up and running and our local suppliers of the materials become more American produced. Or at least from north America. Canada is close and they are our allies.

Don't count on Europe, if things go bad, they will have their own needs to make their own weapons. China is sure not going to supply us with materials if we are adversaries in a war.
