The Pension and Benefit package is what they really care about. If top officials know they will forfeit some or all of it, if they screw up, that will make carry out their assigned jobs better.
Not necessarily.
Depending on whether this fiasco was purely accidental, the product of inexperience and/or incompetence;
Or, plotting and/or political stagecraft (gone horribly wrong, perhaps?),
The "key players" will either have their pensions to fall back on.
Or...the "unseen string-pullers" who actually orchestrated the debacle will generously reward those who now "fall on their swords" to keep their secrets.

The House voted without opposition Wednesday for a resolution to establish a bipartisan task force to investigate the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump.
The task force will investigate federal, state and local law enforcement and agency actions in the lead-up to the attempt on Trump's life on July 13 in Butler, Pennsylvania. Four hundred-sixteen members voted in favor of the resolution, and 16 members did not vote.
Seven Republicans and six Democrats will serve on the committee, House party leaders said in a statement.
The resolution text said the task force must issue a final report to the House by Dec. 13, noting that it should include "any recommendations for legislative reforms necessary to prevent future security lapses."
In a statement after the vote, House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., said that “protecting the safety and security of our nation’s leaders is a responsibility that transcends party lines.”
Johnson and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., announced their intention Tuesday to create the task force, which will have subpoena authority.
Johnson and Jeffries said the task force would seek to understand what went wrong, ensure accountability and prevent a similar failure.

Speaker Mike Johnson and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries on Tuesday morning announced they will form a bipartisan task force to investigate the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump.
The House will vote on a resolution establishing the task force later this week. Under the resolution, the group will include 13 members, including 6 Democrats.
“The security failures that allowed an assassination attempt on Donald Trump’s life are shocking. … The task force will be empowered with subpoena authority and will move quickly to find the facts, ensure accountability, and make certain such failures never happen again,” Johnson and Jeffries said in a joint statement.
Neither Johnson nor Jeffries said Tuesday morning who they will appoint to the task force, and members say there is jockeying behind the scenes for a seat.

Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) and Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) announced the members tapped to serve on the bipartisan task force set to investigate the attempted assassination of former President Trump during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania earlier this month.
Why it matters: The task force will have jurisdiction of the investigation going forward, after multiple House committees launched individual probes after Trump was shot on July 13.
Johnson selected Rep. Mike Kelly (R-Pa.), who was in attendance at the rally, to serve its chair, and Reps. Mark Green (R-Tenn.), Dave Joyce (R-Ohio), Laurel Lee (R-Fla.), Michael Waltz (R-Fla.), Clay Higgins (R-La.) and Pat Fallon (R-Texas) to sit on the panel.
Jeffries appointed Rep. Jason Crow (D-Colo.) to serve as ranking member, with Reps. Lou Correa (D-Calif.), Madeleine Dean (D-Pa.), Chrissy Houlahan (D-Pa.), Glenn Ivey (D-Md.) and Jared Moskowitz (D-Fla.) set to be on the committee.
"We have the utmost confidence in this bipartisan group of steady, highly qualified, and capable Members of Congress to move quickly to find the facts, ensure accountability, and help make certain such failures never happen again," Johnson and Jeffries said in a joint statement.
