Hurricane Beryl, now an ‘extremely dangerous’ Category 4 storm, heads for the Caribbean

As expected, Hurricane Beryl strengthened into a Category 4 hurricane Sunday but it happened several hours earlier than expected. Now, Beryl barrels toward the Caribbean.

Here’s the latest from the National Hurricane Center’s Sunday’s 5 p.m. advisory.

Beryl’s wind speed: Beryl’s packing 130 mph sustained winds, an increase of 50 mph from Saturday’s 8 p.m. advisory and 10 mph from Sunday’s 11 a.m. advisory. Higher gusts are present. Hurricane force winds blow up to 30 miles from Beryl’s center, with tropical storm force winds extending 115 miles.

“Fluctuations in strength are likely during the next day or so, and Beryl is expected to remain an extremely dangerous Category 4 hurricane through landfall in the Windward Islands,” the hurricane center said.

Cat 4s are nasty.
I would love to live in that part of the world but hurricane risk would be a consideration.

I'm in the Chesapeake area and we get them now and then.

hope it's not too bad for those poor people.

I wonder how much of this is actual forecasting and how much is doom porn...I guess we shall see in the next few days.

The sailing community says this is real, been watching it for several days. The conditions have been ripe for its strengthening.

Boats are fleeing South from Barbados.

Barbados is such a fantastic island.
It’s an amazing little heaven and a must see if you’re an island hopping adventurer.
It’s right where the Atlantic meets the Caribbean.
They get very few hurricanes that far south and I hope they fair well.
You couldn’t find a prettier safer island in the Caribbean.

It's that time of year. Looks like this one will be bad. Cat 4 is never good. Keep an eye out on the National Hurricane Center website.

Joe Bastardi on Twitter or X is the go to guy for storm and weather analysis. He's said that this storm is so compact that it limits the danger to all areas outside its landfall. He's compared to to Hurricane Emily 2005. He's on Weatherbell. com a company that provides weather data to insurers and those impacted by weather conditions.

Hurricane Beryl has become the earliest Category 5 on record after a historic Windward Islands landfall with destructive winds, storm surge and flooding rainfall. Current status: The NOAA Hurricane Hunters measured winds equating to sustained surface winds of 160 mph Monday evening.

She's a monster right now. The Caymans and Jamaica will see her tomorrow. Hopefully she loses strength before hitting the Yucatan.

Also fingers crossed she doesn't veer right into open water and head directly for Texas as in one of the spaghetti models.

Hurricanes usually hook right. It’s still a bit early, once it nears Cuba is when things change rapidly.

Just woke up this morning to this in my video feed:

As above mentioned, an island called Carriacou .

I love the spirit of the people. Look at all of the survivors with smiles on their faces as they talk about the losses. And it really looked devastating. It looks like many were prepared, many of the houses did good for the strong sustained winds that swept through. This hurricane Beryl is looking to make landfall in Jamaica possibly now.

You can feel the friendliness and kindness of the people. My heart goes out to all that are in the path of this destructive storm.

looking at the satellite projected path...i bet the eye angles left towards Panama... then regenerates in Pacific waters into a new storm flooding the west of northern Mexico
