Hi folks,

A couple of days ago I came across a documentary on the BBC iPlayer streaming service which purported to be an investigation into the Broadhaven UFO sightings phenomenon back in the 1970's. Below is the blurb:

It’s 1977, and 14 schoolboys from a village in west Wales make headlines around the world after they claim to see a UFO in the playground. The media frenzy is fuelled by the fact the boys had been placed under exam conditions and asked to draw what they saw. All depict a large silver craft with eery similarities. But their 'close encounter' is only the start. It triggers a wave of unexplained phenomena along the coastline.

Digging out reports about the schoolboys, natural sceptic and Radio 1 presenter Sian Eleri feels compelled to find out what really happened. She heads to the seaside village of Broad Haven, where it all began; her first mission is to track down the boys. She’s soon in deep, managing to trace the original drawings and chasing leads on the lads. But will any of them speak to her after all this time?

There’s a breakthrough when Sian tracks down the case files of original investigator, Randall Jones Pugh. They’ve been locked away for more than 30 years – until now. She’s struck by first-hand accounts of how petrified the boys were. And the case files themselves come with a caution. Randall dropped the case when something spooked him.

Sian tests other theories - did the boys see a military craft? Was it a playground joke that went too far? But things take a chilling turn when Sian meets a woman who was at the school at the time and is still haunted by it all. She’s clear it wasn’t just the children who saw something… And Sian’s about to find a tape of a new witness who takes the extraterrestrial encounters to another level.

So... When I started watching it I was HIGHLY skeptical that anything coming out of the BBC on this sort of subject would be in any way balanced, fair, or worth watching.

To my great surprise & delight, the young lady journalist, Sian Eleri, a native of Wales herself, did a fantastic job of staying rather open-minded as she proceeded to investigate in great depth the Broadhaven UFO flap of the late 70's. By the end of the series, incredibly, this mainstream journalist had become a tentative believer in the reality of the UAP/UFO/extraterrestrial/advanced mil-tech phenomenon, and it was really rather a stunning series overall. The depth of her investigation surprised me, as did some of the facts that she uncovered & reported fairly & accurately.

In summary, if you are able to watch this series, I HIGHLY recommend it. I watched it all in one sitting, in fact, so interesting & convincing was the tale that was woven. You will be surprised that the BBC would have anything to do with such an honest & intriguing report of UFO/UAP experiencers in one of the most documented 'flaps' of the 1970's. The research & eventual conclusions of the original investigator (an amateur who was a retired veterinary researcher, named Randall Pugh) was extremely persuasive & suggestive, though I won't spoil it by going too much into what he uncovered, and what it led him to conclude & act upon regarding.

Give it a watch, you will be pleasantly surprised. Here's hoping we will see more investigations in this vein from the same journalist in the future, on other subjects equally mysterious. Apparently she has done work researching hauntings, but I don't recall watching them even though my wife is convinced we saw them a while back.

Paranormal - the village that saw aliens, featuring Sian Eleri

Cheers,

FITO.

Even though the story is ancient, and been done a few times it was a fun watch. She also did one under the same "Paranormal" show title about a famous haunting in Wales.

I thought she, and the BBC, did a great job all things considered - respectful without being pandering.

My one real niggle was that X-rays/MRIs/CTs can be conducted privately, on request, without an underlying medical condition being known - you just have to be willing to pay for it. I wouldn't have objected, as a licence payer, for the BBC to have put that query to bed - one way or another for the sake of £500 give or take. Or at least to have offered to. I found it annoying that they just left that there hanging as though it was an insurmountable obstacle.

Besides that it was entertaining, and I have so far resisted trying to create plasma in the microwave, it has not been easy.

Watching it, I was waiting for Nick Pope to pop up, since they did cover the MODs role in maintaining files on reports of UFOs, got the standard response when they contacted them directly for comment and since that is what he did and now makes a living from talking about - it would have been an ideal opportunity for him to explain how that all worked back in his day. Subsequently reading Mirage Man's old thread on the incident, it seems that he has never delved into the Broad Haven case. Which seemed curious until I did a little exploring and found he doesn't really talk much about any UK case other than Rendlesham. I guess he only peddles his wares to the US, and UK cases just aren't revenue generators. Who knows? He has made comments with regard to Calvine, which the documentary briefly touched upon, but again there is a US implication there however tenuous that might be.

Oh boy...a while back I tried to get this BBC station to play and failed miserably...
You need all kinds of stuff to play it and it boiled down to paying them some money...I recall.
You have to have a VPN and get a UK IP address.

I'll give it a try again..I'd like to see this.

I had no idea BBC iPlayer was intended to be exclusively for British viewers - although it seems fairly obvious now I am thinking about it. It also, now I have looked at it, seems you can't just use any VPN, as they have built in VPN detection software or some such thing.

As I understand it, non-British visitors are able to access BBC Sounds, so if you can't access this programme here is a little consolation prize you might enjoy:

www.bbc.co.uk...

The BBC does sell to other viewing platforms, so hopefully it'll be more widely available to you later if not sooner.

In the '80s, a lot of kids in the band saw a UFO during band practice. They said it was huge, low, & slow like a mothership. I didn't see it - I had a dental appointment that day but I remember getting back and everyone talking about it and they canceled our band practice because of it - none of the kids could settle down. Then the next day they said it was a military drill and that was that everybody just forgot about it. That day, the next day, there were a lot of what look like fast military jets in the sky.

Now that I'm older and familiar with UFO lore, I wonder why the military would have chosen that location to fly something low over a school like that.

Same thing happened on Anglesey in the '70's too.
I was in the car with my mum, sister and a school friend on our way to our ballet exams. Mum stopped the car as we watched a silver, cigar tube 'thing' go over Parys Mountain. We know what we saw. Got home later and told my Dad about it and he said it must have been a plane and the angle it was flying at. Mum said.... "I think having lived on Anglesey all my life, and with RAF Valley here, I know what's a plane and what isn't!"
This 'thing' was low, moving slow'ish and all 4 of us saw it clearly. Well, the 6 o'clock news came on and dad had to eat his words as it was the 'breaking news' that evening as children in Rhosybol and Amlwch and teachers had reported the sighting.
It's a very well documented case and a BBC documentary was done on it.

Would have loved to watch this, but even with a VPN it detects I'm not in the UK.

I'll search if there are other sources.

I haven't read all the way through this thread yet, but have seen some comments about BBC iPlayer not working in the US.

I'm currently in the US and have been watching it just fine using the Firestick, Nord Vpn connected to a server in the UK, and then a downloaded the iPlayer app.

It'll ask if you have a TV licence etc, just click yes and give a UK postcode.

Worked fine for me, and watched quite a few shows on there.
