Why nobody will do even better, that's the problem with football.
You don't build engines around cars , you build the car around an engine if it's good enough you fine tune it until its perfect 👌

Me myself I don't blame Koeman for failing the championship ,
But some players did fail , not calling names because we know.

But congrats to Spain we also had the feeling if we ended there we would fail again

That was a bit of a downer. After England equalised, I thought the tide may have been turning... unfortunately, the tide ebbed away and never came back. I thought that if the game had gone to penalties, then England would have won... their new spot-kicking philosophy has come good and will surely help in future tournaments.

Spain, like Italy and other latin countries, either play brilliantly or dreadfully, to beat them, you have to break their hearts.

I'm happy that the game was without controversial refereeing decisions and was pretty clean... maybe too clean. Perhaps, England should have been angrier, more aggressive, even if it meant becoming the bad guy.

Anyway, going forward, England, Netherlands, Italy, etc., we all have to up our game if we're going to beat this Spanish team.

@Oldcarpy2 If you like, our bet still stands for the World Cup in 2026... if ATS survives until then or we move our footy chat to D.I.

Anyway, I'm off to follow the Euro U19 games, Italy are in the final tournament and we have a Yamal-type prospect in the 17 year old Simone Pafundi... 5 goals in 6 games and 20 shots on target!

I have admit Southgate has achieved a lot as England manager, he has much to be proud of.
But he's done as much as he can.
And if I'm being brutally honest he's yesterdays Man.....football has moved on and he lacks the tactical nous.

Thanks Gareth - even Sir Gareth if they want - but time for change.

I think the same could be said about Koeman; lots of good, talented young Dutch players.......Koeman, like Southgate is stuck in the past.

There's no denying Spain were head and shoulders the best team in the tournament....but they are definitely beatable.

Yeah, we can't even use the age old 'we were robbed, the ref gave us nothing' excuse.....which is quite remarkable considering he is French!
He was very fair and tried to let the game flow, couldn't really fault him at all.

It's going to be interesting to see what the players have to say about this.

They are probably very anxious and depressed for the result; now add guilt for Southgate throwing in the towel.

They need to rebuild confidence and do it fast!

They have all paid their respects with glowing compliments.

So, who next?

Hopefully a Brit. Howe, Potter?

Dumbledore would have been good. Probably not an option, what with being dead and everything.

Southgate's legacy is a good one. He has given us a squad full of young talent to go forward with.

Much as I love him, I can't see Kane starting.
