You seem to have the timeline wrong. Nicholas Tartaglione was his cellmate during the first "suicide attempt" on July 23, 2019. He supposedly alerted the guards. Looking at the shape he was in Tartaglione could have killed him that night if that was what he had planned to do.

Epstein "hung himself" on the morning of August 10, 2019 the day after his cellmate had been transferred.
