Something I find amusing

I find this phenomenon amusing. I originally noticed this on Reddit where longer posts get less reaction than shorter posts. I find the same thing here now too, although to a lesser extent. After some research, I found that the principle reason for this on Reddit is most posters on Reddit use some sort of a mobile device as their primary interface. Longer posts are definitely more challenging to read on a cell phone.

I wonder if increased cell phone usage is also creeping into the user demographic here as well.

I personally have always felt longer posts generally back up statements with reasoning, so I prefer these over shorter posts. I like to understand the reasoning behind a person's statement, and thus feel like I should reward the extra effort accordingly with my responses. (for any of you who wonder about my posts here, this is why some of them can be longer; I try to back up my posts with explanation).

I see the same things with edits. Reddit, again as an example, has a very low tolerance for editing a post. I've watched posts with egregious typos increase with votes, only to go backwards after an edit correcting the typo. I am anally retentive/OCD about typos and will almost always go back and correct even the most minor of typographical / grammatical errors. This is why you will often see my posts as having edits (especially when I type fast). I do agree that it is bad form to go back and change the spirit of a post (and I never do this), but I feel it is the responsible course of action for users to correct obvious typos.

I haven't used anything but my android phone in a couple of years now. It can do anything a PC can and is more convenient.

I also see the larger posts as being just scanned or skipped over by some that are lazy about reading longer posts. Ats has the problem of having to turn my phone sideways for easier reading. Di works better in formatting on ether screen orientation, but it is newer and has fewer coding problems.. This could also be a factor.

I use my phone because I don't have a PC. I am trying to figure out which PC to get necause I do want one and I have a few recommendations but I'm waiting till I have time to make the trek to the actual computer store to really check them out before I buy.

It is getting annoying trying to do things only on my phone. It causes a lot of issues with different things. Also can't see peoples avatar or signature on this site on my phone. I make typos and go back to edit them all the time hehe.

Does Photoshop and other graphic programs work on a mobile? You'd need perfect vision to see what you are doing.

Dito on the anal retentiveness.
I use a desktop exclusively. Just thinking of doing anything internet on my phone repulses me. I have had 2 laptops in the past and they don't seem to hold up very long for me. I am on a desktop that has been my go-to for more than 8 years now.

I have gone to ATS on my phone on occasion but I have never logged in on it.

Big hands and small phone = frustration and aggravation I don't need.

It depends on who is the writer of the long text in the OP or post.

If I know them to have a brain and/or a sense of humor...I'll read the entirety of their post.

I think mobile devices definitely play a role in that new trend.

I think it’s also the social media companies hiring ex casino professionals who learn how to create mechanisms the mimic a dopamine hit from a slot machine.

They’ve created ecosystem with things like YoutTube shorts, instagram feeds where you go through the feed quickly, and TikTok which focuses on very brief videos.

People’s attention span are getting shorter, and at the end of the day I wonder if they truly do want context or nuance. People are getting off on having a quick reaction and moving on. The feeds are also displaying things that validate people’s disposition.

I’ve seen videos where couples sit next to eachother and go to the same content then go to the comment section. They’re seeing completely different comments go to the top that are curtailed to their specific demographic.

The companies want to keep people polarized and engaged. It’s what keeps people coming back. Long form content is now viewed as boring unfortunately.

I guess I'll have to stick some 'brown M&M's' in one of my posts sometime! LOL!

Yes there are photomenupliation apps for smart phones. Some even do most of the work automatically. Some have great zoom features that allow for detail work while others are just more or less cut and paste work. You really just.have to try them to see if it is what you are wanting in the app.

There are video apps that can do green screen work in real time without needing a green screen. Background replacements, video overlays and the like.

You can easily use an external monitor and keyboard if you want. I showed movies and music videos at a party last weekend from my phone to a projector.

A lot of ong posts aren't written well enough to hold my attention and usually consist of self-agrandizing propaganda, like they're running for public office or something.

( I always read your threads, FCD.

Proper paragraphs mean the difference from something to read or something to just skip entirely. A text wall is much harder to read.

Please do not go to a retail store to buy your computer needs, amazon will provide you the same at half the cost. Simply look for a computer with the same hardware as the one you want retail or simply type the model number snd make into amazon a reply to: Shoshanna

I have the biggest tablet I can comfortably use. My phone gets used for calls and some texts. For people that only use their phones, did you know the spelling corrections that appears above your soft keys can be used? Seemingly, 90% can't. I dislick it in the eggsteme people who can't use spill check.

No, they can't. And I don't know why people keep propagating this lie. My computer is a great tool and a hand-held cell-phone cannot even come close to duplicating what my PC can. I have a negative scanner, a flatbed scanner, a printer, a dual cassette deck, external drives, a dvd/cd burner, a floppy drive (which I don't use near as much as I used to, but it does work), speakers, various patch cords, different types of connectors for all the sorts of digital cameras I use, a universal card reader for memory cards, my four-track cassette recorder, two audio to/from digital converters, etc., that I plug into my PC. The only way a cell-phone can match a desktop computer is if all you do is surf the web and send e-mails.

So, no. Cell-phones can't do everything.
