A 50-year-old man has been caught on camera jumping off a pleasure boat to try and "body slam" an orca in New Zealand, in what was branded "disgraceful" and "pathetic" behaviour.
"Shocking" footage of the man diving into the sea to land on the orca with his body has sparked uproar on social media after New Zealand's Department of Conservation (DoC) posted it on its Instagram account.
The man has been fined $600 (£288) as a consequence of his actions off the coast of Devonport, Auckland, in February, which saw him aiming for an adult male orca and a calf.

Why choose body slamming? A friendly approach is what most people would do? Asshole move in my estimation, without any other data, Was the guy mentally disabled in any way? Not a normal behaviour.

I'd like to see him try that in someplace where orcas are attacking boats, like the Strait of Gibraltar, Gulf of Cadiz or the North Atlantic Ocean.

Totally agree, instead of just enjoying the sight of the Orca and her baby he said "ahhhh crap I'm gonna go and jump on top of them from the boat"
Unbelievable how some people's brains work. 🙄

Yeah, he probably picked on female orcas with their young to look after. GO TRY IT ON THE MALE ORCAS LOOKING FOR ACTION.

I’m happy to be proved wrong here, but I’m pretty sure there isn’t any recorded case of a wild orca attacking a human.

Maybe, but there’s plenty of idiots out there who’ve probably done similar and just not posted it on social media, yet still no recorded attack on humans from by killer whales… like why? They’re predators and literally attack other animals just for the sport of it, but not humans.
I just find it fascinating.

I want to see him try that on an orca stallion and see what happens, hmm?

Well most likely nothing, since wild killer whales don’t attack humans, it’s one of the great mysteries of life.
Anyway…

It isn't really a mystery... Orcas are trained when they are young what to eat and what not to eat. Captured Orcas attack humans all the time...
I'm just waiting for the time that a wild Orca noms down on a human and finds out that the average one is chock full of anti-depressants.
Then we will become to the Orcas what pufferfish are to the dolphins...
