Rep. Chrissy Houlahan, D-Pa., sponsored the automatic registration language and called it both a money-saving and common-sense reform.
"By using available federal databases, the [Selective Service] agency will be able to register all of the individuals required and thus help ensure that any future military draft is fair and equitable," she said during debate on the idea Wednesday night.

In the modern world with modern weapons, if you wait until foreign troops are attacking US territory to start fighting, you have already lost.

Then we will have an army that will have no reservations about turning on us.
Maybe, we have had 170,000 naturalized soldiers since 2002, 2023 we had 12,000. Triple the number from 2020.
It will be a likely issue down the road

It's already an issue.
The military is trying to manage it and keep a lid on the whole thing.

What is this thread about?
Selective service registration for all males in the USA is mandatory by law from 18 to 25 years old. There are some references in this thread suggesting it is voluntary but it is not. It does apply to illeagle aliens as well as citizens.
When I registered many years ago, I had to do it at the post office. Now it seems it can be done online. How is this automation to work as all eligible must register by law?
