Ever since I was a kid, I loved popcorn, but not all the time. I don't know what it was about popcorn, but it always seemed better when there was a mystery, whodunnit, or conspiracy about. Popcorn never really fills you up, but it gives you something to do with your hands (sssshhh, don't tell anyone this). Popcorn also always helps you out if you had a beer (or seven) before you go pick your girl up to watch a movie.

As the band plays, and the bow of the ATS Titanic dips ever lower below the surface (damn you, ATS Californian, just damn you!)...what food is fun for you in all your interwebz travails?

Popcorn is among my favorites (and my dogs sure love the fallout too!)

Tonight, I eat popcorn. Tomorrow will be HARD LIQUOR! LOL!

Who likes popcorn?

I have pop corn stories, a big bag of them.

There was a time back in 67, I was working at a drive in theater and one of my jobs was to make the popcorn. I would start in the afternoon hours before it got dark. The kernals came in big ten gallon cans that we never threw away because with enough of them we would store it for the weekends showings. It was a double theater, the oldest in the area and it sold a ton of popcorn.

At that time I lived in the East Bay of the San Francisco Bay. cross the bay the Haight Ashbury time was rolling along and everyone listened to a small FM radio station called KMPX. It had begun when some of the more free thinking AM radio DJs decided that what they were allowed to say and play was to restrictive so then found this old hardly used FM station that had been used mostly for weather reports and farming type of information. They turned it into the station that opened up the bay area to the hippie music of the day.

After a year or two, the owners of the station decided they wanted to make more money and began to take control of the station again so the DJ staff went out on strike. The day the strike was to happen, the DJs began to call for supporters to join them in the street that evening. Everyone was to bring what they could in the way of food and drink and smoke. A live band would be present.

So I heard the call, popped and popped and popped and filled up ten of thse huge cans with fresh popcorn and headed out across the bay for the party. It filled the street and indeed there was a live band, ''The Gollywogs''. The band was GREAT and soon became known as Creedence Clearwater Revival and I became known as Mr. Popcorn.

Popcorn is easy to store and take up little room. It is filling and can be flavored any way you like. I make it with plain onion powder and a little garlic powder, no salt in ether and no salt needed. I have a glass microwave popcorn popper, so no oil ether.

Might be the perfect snack food. Just corn and spices.

A good wine paired with a good conspiracy goes well on a Friday night.

Noob...

I'm really tickled you are back for the end of this.

It's like we are meeting again on the cast of Fallout.

I really like popcorn, but it gives me brain fog and a low grade headache. People have told me to leave out the salt, others told me it was the butter. I tried it many times without either, still the brain fog and low grade headache.

We make it in a pot using refined coconut oil which contains some myristic acid in it to give a good feeling, plus some real butter, the coconut oil keeps the butter from burning the popcorn leaving a burnt smell in the finished product. Then I salt and butter it at the end, it takes less butter that way if I make it that way.

Now for the headache and brainfog. I do not know why it happens, but have discovered I get it from various other carb things but not all of them. I accidentally found how to stop it about seven years ago......About a tablespoon of Apple cider vinegar with a little sugar and about a quarter cup of water mixed up will stop the headache and brain fog. I have learned to do it right after eating a bowl, but sometimes I forget and the next morning it is there. But I found that if I make it right away, the brainfog and headache are gone within fifteen minutes. Haven't a clue how it works and no research could be found by me to figure out a method of action. Pickle juice will work too in a pinch, but it is not quite as good as the apple cider vinegar with mother is.

I think other people who take the apple cider every day and feel better might be experiencing a similar method of action. The wife has no problem with eating popcorn like I do, but my oldest daughter uses the vinegar technique after eating it and also has identified more foods it works for too. She does use the pickle juice too. White vinegar does not seem to work well for me or her, again we have no clue why it doesn't. But white vinegar is in pickles, yet that works.

For those who have experienced similar effects from popcorn, maybe try it and see if it helps. Remember, my problem is not related to the butter or salt, people can get side effects from those too. So it is not a cure for a salt or high blood pressure headache. It must have something to do with metabolism.

On another note, a bromelain pill will get rid of my milk/ice cream headache, so will eating a grapefruit because it also has proteinases. Fresh pineapple is actually the best for that, but papain is not heat stable, so canned pineapple does not work at all. I have had results from the mildly pasturized pineapple juice in the cartons in the fridge area of stores, but some are ultrapasturized and they do not work. The core of the pineapple contains the most bromelain. I should actually buy some papain powder at the store, but the bromelain capsules are cheap anyway, one capsule will take care of a yogurt or glass of milk or ice cream cone or sunday.

If anyone has problems like this, it is a cheap remide, aspirins do nothing for either of those kinds of headaches I get from eating those things. For me, Tylenol does nothing for a headache or pain for some reason, Iboprofin has less effect than one asprin of three hundred twenty five mg, no need to take more than one aspirin for regular pain I get

So there I was, years later with that fore mentioned grocery bag full of homemade popcorn on a Friday night. My two boys, 10 and 5 in their PJs staying up watching a couple of Planet of the Apes. The boys had drifted off leaving me sitting on the floor resting my back against the couch with the boys asleep on it with the half eaten bag of popcorn next to me. The second Apes hit the last commercial break and I woke the boys telling them it was time for bed.

As the final scenes started up, the boys roused and I watched the tv as I heard a strange noise next to me. I turned my head and there, still half asleep stood the ten year old, his pjs open, peeing into my bag of popcorn. I freaked and in one unbidden move, shot out may arm grabbing on his little dingus stopping him crying ''not in my popcorn you little devil''. As I finished waking him I noticed the five year old had gone up the hallway to his bed room

I expected to see him as I passed the bathroom on the left, standing in front of the john doing his nightly pee but he was not there so I continued on down the hall. The next room on the left was my bedroom and there, standing in exactly the same place as he would to reach the toilet in the bathroom was the five year old peeing into my open chest of drawers.
I never did ge to finish that movie.

I was standing in a stall in a bathroom in SE Asia once, and this Asian guy next to me says..."Ah, asparagus for dinner!

I glared over at him and said..."WTF, Dude??? Would you like to check my butthole now too?????"

He got this really scared look on his face, like I was going to beat on him or something, and says...""No, no, no...I, I, I meant, I had asparagus for dinner last night!!...his eyes big as dinner plates.

I laughed and said..."Oh, you too, huh?"
