This happened about a month ago and I wasn't going to mention it, but with ATS being up in the air as to whether we'll even be here tomorrow, I thought I'll just go ahead and put it out there.

Maybe this belongs in Paranormal. I dunno. Let's see what you guys think.

I've had some weird things happen in my life, but as far as I know, nothing like this so I'll try to give as much detail as possible.

It was around 4 in the afternoon and I was getting started on dinner. I was doing some chicken low and slow in the oven, so I put it in for 50 minutes. I set the timer on the stove and then set a timer on my phone. I knew I was not going to be in the room when the stove timer went off, so that's why I set the one on the phone.

My PC is in my bedroom and after poring a cup of coffee, I went back there and closed the door. I keep it closed because the cats like to walk or sleep on my keyboard.

From the time I set the timer, poured coffee and walked back here and sat down we'll call it about 2 minutes. I then watched an 18 minute video on Youtube. I even remember which one it was. At the end of that video, the timer on my phone went off. To me, total time from setting that timer to the end of the video was roughly 20 minutes. 2 minutes to pour coffee, walk back, set down and cue up the video.

I looked at my phone thinking "What the hell ? " and just figured I'd set it wrong. Nope, it showed 50 minutes set as the time. I thought "Ok, I'll go check the stove timer", so I got up to go to the kitchen and as soon as I opened the bedroom door, I could hear it beeping. Looked in the oven, chicken was done.

I lost 30 minutes somewhere.

I'll admit, I zone out sometimes. I do it all the time when I'm mowing. Just riding back and forth, back and forth, running on auto pilot, but this was different. I distinctly remember coming back here, sitting and watching the video, and the timer going off at about the same time the video ended.

Weird.

I had a friend that would experience occasional episodes like this. It started out years apart, so just a oddity? In her early 50's it started happening more frequently, and her co-workers began to notice. She'd just 'drift off' for 30 seconds or so.

At their urging she mentioned it to her doctor; a sleep study showed she had narcolepsy. We were all stunned; when one thinks of narcolepsy we tend to envision someone falling asleep or into a trance for an extended period of time.

I also thought it was something you were born with and was obvious early in life, always staying the same. Wrong again! It can remain stable for decades, then progress rapidly in later years.

Are you one that can fall asleep in a relatively short period of time, by chance?

It usually takes me a long time to get to sleep. At least 20 minutes. I read till I get sleepy, turn the light off and it still takes forever.

Missing time stories are weird and fascinating. They're among the more intriguing paranormal subjects, imo.
It's just so weird to think that you're going about your business, with nothing out of the ordinary happening, then suddenly
you're completely surprised, thinking "Where the hell did 30 minutes go?"

Hopefully you weren't visited by the greys.

Checked it out a little further and found something else I never knew about nac=rcolepsy:

"According to the search results, narcoleptics may have fragmented sleep and insomnia, which can disrupt their nighttime sleep. They may experience difficulties falling asleep due to various factors such as vivid dreaming, sleep apnea, acting out while dreaming, and periodic leg movements. Additionally, some narcoleptics may have a hard time staying asleep at night due to frequent awakenings, resulting in poor quality sleep."

AI-generated answer.

A co-worker of mine began having problems with missing time in her mid 50's. Turns out she had narcolepsy and it progressed pretty rapidly over the next 2-3 years, to the point she was put on disability. It got so bad she'd fall asleep in the middle of eating, and if it hadn't been for family would have choked to death
In retrospect, she saw looking back on her life that she had very mnior symptoms most of her life, but notheing that interfered with her daily activities.

Just throwing out some alternative thoughts, but hope your experience was just 'weird'.

You may have fallen asleep or didn't measure time accurately or both.

Yes they are but there connection with UFOs and Alien Abductions shouldn't be made easily. Missing time was here long before the modern Alien Abductions. Ok even Alien Abductions is similar to stories you could find in ancient folklore.

In some "time loss" experiences, it happens that the person comes away with a new sense of reality that they never had before. In other cases, the clocks read wrongly, of course, or at the least, the chicken gets burned.

Have you tried doing those steps again? Record it this time and maybe it will trigger something.

Feel like chicken tonight?

I wonder if it could have been a mild petit mal seizure.
Not attached to that idea, just thought it worth considering.

I have lost time on 3 occasions in my life , once when I was young around 9 years of age I lost 4 hours , on all 3 occasions I was moving and can offer no rational explanation for any of them .

The first time in 75 or 76 I left the house running the 700 or so meters to the local farm I was working at it was a warm summer morning 9.50 am and I was late and running like mad , suddenly I hear my name being called by my grandmother who I had left in the house , as I turned to see her I noticed the sun was no longer in front of me but well over my right shoulder and it was really warm .

I knew my gran was in a mood because her arms were crossed and she said to me where the hell have you been people have been out looking for you , I looked at her stunned and said I just left the house and was told it was now 2 PM

I was convinced she was joking with me and run into a neighbours house to look at their clock and it was 2 pm , that still cooks my noodle nearly 50 years later .

I’ve experienced slow time or hyper thinking which seems a bit weird when it happens.
I’ve also jumped into a parallel reality Earth on at least one occasion one strange night with some major electrical storm activity happening in my area. It disrupted traffic and roads so much that the interstate flooded and roads were closed and EMS were blocking access to roads in the area near me. I immediately discovered a number of differences between the reality I had been in. What I didn’t like was that if the differences are minor, I could still be switching many more times and not realize it except believing some of the people I was talking to must be on drugs because I thought some of what I heard was just weird. I can’t rule out they were on drugs and nutty. Losing 30 minutes might seem a little bit weird but a lot less than what I’ve already experienced. If I had a choice, I would prefer losing 30 minutes rather than suddenly jumping into a parallel reality with several noticeable differences.

It’s possible in my opinion our reality is a very advanced version of an artificial reality and several or a multitude of these realities are running in parallel and that sometimes there are glitches in the programs. The god like AI running the programs could alter or fix glitches suddenly but this could result in strange observations. Just a thought. I had more than one dream where an extremely advanced AI running the programs communicated information to me. Distortions in time I believe could be glitches in the program.

On the other hand, could be ET froze your consciousness while they probed you.

I thought I did once, too, but they had fallen down under the cushion at the back of the couch, with all those bits of potato crisps and lint.

I'm not attached to the idea either since I wouldn't rule out narcolepsy in spite of saying it takes 20 minutes to fall asleep. It takes me 20 minutes to fall asleep at bedtime, but I can still nod off rather quickly if I'm bored with what I'm doing.

I have a family member who had missing time, turned out it was caused by seizures, but he had no idea he was having them, so he was really puzzled by his missing time. For example, he texted me that he'd arrive at my place in 2 minutes. But he doesn't show up in 2 minutes, he shows up in 20 minutes. So I showed him the timestamp on his text was 20 minutes ago saying he'd arrive in 2 minutes, and asked him where the 18 minutes went. He really seemed genuinely confused and puzzled, since he remembered sending the text saying he'd arrive in 2 minutes, but he couldn't explain why it took 20 minutes.

One clue it was a seizure is he also had some unexplained blood on his face. Eventually he ended up taking anti-seizure medication, which stopped the seizures and the missing time episodes.

From the Ukrainian forum:

I was walking down the street one day and sometimes pigeons passed under my feet, and even more often, I noticed, they passed on purpose. It’s not clear why they get under our feet, but one day this happened:

It means that a dove passes in front of my feet and remains behind me on my left hand, and then suddenly and with lightning speed, unexpected even for myself, sharply, in a split second, I turned my head just enough for my eyes to turn enough to look at the pigeon in the shortest possible time! I didn't plan to look at him, it just happened by itself!! And so I see a pigeon standing still and looking over my shoulder at my trail, and as soon as he realized that he was burned and I see him, he in a hurry begins to peck something on the ground, but he only pretended to peck!!! His beak did not reach the ground three centimeters!!

He did this pecking movement five times in two seconds, it was very fast! It’s like he’s a bitch spy whose cover was revealed, he unsuccessfully tried to imitate an ordinary pigeon!!!

Bitch…. flashed in my head in bold letters – THE MATRIX..
And I had the feeling that I was being watched from all the cracks!

As of Jan of this year, I lost 2 hours just made my coffee, checked the clock on the wall which was in sync with my Roku tv, started surfing and just happened to look up and BAM! 2hrs passed within 20 mins!

No, I didn't fall asleep as I'm always awake btwn the hours of 9pm and 7am.. always!

Yeah, true story! But that doesn't hold a candle to my 24 hour loss of time, BACK to the same day! Maybe for another thread.
