I love history...grew up during Vietnam. My Dad was an Air Force pilot...KC135, the flying gas station.
Reading your post about your Dad was engrossing. We saw that movie a while back about Dunkirk, and your story made those images really come alive.
I'm sure the Smithsonian would love to have this collection.

the status itself it is indeed under control of the registrar. It is like a failsafe measure in case there is an error at the registrar, like a wild running script or something. It can also be sold as an extra protection, often called "Domain Lock" which just means basically that no changes (either technical or administrative or both) can happen on the domain name without an out of band confirmation like a phone call.

Just an opinion, maybe some private or government affiliated company own ATS and is using it for some kind of social testing.

At this point I believe anything specially when the owners has been soo quiet behind the scenes.

I talked to Godaddy specifically about this, this very morning. I have a domain with them. If the domain is not on auto renew and the payment lapses, there is a 7-10 day grace period before they take it off the net. Which means at minimum, we have until May 25th.

And Godaddy is in Tempe, AZ. Two hours from me.

This is, imo, interactive entropy. This is what happens when people of means lose interest in their new toy. Staff tried to interact with the new owners -- or their representatives -- in a meaningful manner. We were unsuccessful. I am sorry that we failed you all. We don't think of it as a failure, because we were just honoring the T&Cs as endorsed by the original owners.

We did our best for you all, and us. We are members first, and moderators second. We did everything within our very limited powers to make things work.

If I had money and had acquired a toy, and then found it to be somewhat distasteful, or uninteresting, I would relegate it to the people who wanted to enjoy it. That has not happened, and therefore I do not curse, but I narrow my eyes at those who own this site, but do not engage with us. This place has always had a close connection with the owners. It is what has made this hallowed space work. The T&Cs are great, but they are not enought; no, you need a strong ownership and administration to make a powerful site like this work.

So............... we are adrift, wondering if the next few days will leave us dark. To the Owners of ATS: WHY? Why wouldn't you let us participate if you were bored with the site? WHY? Why wouldn't you entertain a membership buyout if you thought that your new toy wasn't a fit?

WHAT IF....???

It's been theorized many times over the years, but what if ATS really was some sort of a psyop, or if it evolved into one at some point??? A trawl net cast by some alphabet agency to see what people know, or what people are talking about out in the open? Hmmmm...stranger things have happened.

It's possible such an activity had a specific purpose to discover, recon or get the goods on a specific group, and this has been accomplished, thus the casting adrift.

Wouldn't that be the icing on the cake...with a cherry on top!
