I saw a Texas cattleman blow the head of a Dillo digging in his lawn.

It's headless body did impressive flips up to five feet in the air for well over five minutes.

The more you know.

Why did he do that?

What a 'wonderful' act!

Maybe he wanted to see if this one jumped higher than the last one.

No ethical standards.

The same reason people poison or kill rats, mice, gophers and moles. They don't want their property and stuff messed up and damaged or ugly. Quite frankly, as gross as the appearance of a headless armadillo looks/sounds, it's much more humane than poisoning or kill trapping. They're wild animals that cause destruction to property.

So if you've never purposefully killed a mouse, gopher, rat, mole, pigeon, squirrel etcetera, etcetera for no reason related to food gathering or sustenance, ..... flame away.

Sooooo judgmental, people.

they eat bugs, so as long as they don't try eating me, I'll not worry too much. I just thought it was strange to see them this close to me. The climate in Florence and Darlington is very similar to that of Spiveys Corner.

They can burrow under foundations. Might destroy your home. That is why that park ranger was shooting them. They were destroying the cabins.

You need to understand Texans, you see, especiallysome of the Hardline Baptists in the oil industries. God gave them Dominion over the animals and told them to care for the Earth and be it's Stewarts, and imported grasses and water bills to maintain custom lawns are expensive to maintain in the traditional Texas environment.

He was protecting his investmenst in order to preserve his vision of his little slice of Eden.

Not saying I'd do the same, but that's the hard truth.

If I have a choice between armadillos and wild boar moving north, I'll take the armadillos thank you.

Although interestingly there are reports of feral pigs migrating south from Canada! Nothing to mess with whatever direction they came from.

I don't know anything about their expanding territory, but this'll educated you some on their road crossing skills.

Armadillos are tasty, but you can't beat wild pig meat. However, hunting wild pig is a riskier proposition, so there's that.

I guests it comes down to skill level and how big a gun have.

I was starting to get excited until I saw they wont be coming out west because of the deserts and mountains, so I guess no armadillos for me.

Damn immigrants, can't they stop them at the border. Put up that fence to keep those pesty immigrants out, we got enough of them here already. Just think if you hit an armadillo with a car, bad enough hitting a turtle crossing the road. Heard of some people I know that wound up in the ditch after hitting a big turtle.

A special division of the Homeland Security has to be made to keep armadillos from crossing the border into the USA. They should have background checks run on everyone of them, if that shell is real hard, then they are a threat to American drivers

They have been on Cumberland Island, Georgia for at least the last 50 years (I suspect far longer). We used to see who could sneak up and poke their armored butts with a walking stick. Whoever got an armadillo to jump the highest won.

It’s not just a matter of climate change (another debate for another day). Most hugely successful species are very adaptable and can make subtle adjustments in a short period of time that allow them to adapt to different latitudes. As long as there are bugs to root up, Armadillos will find a way to make it work. Have Grub Will Travel.

, and two, these guys SUCK at crossing the road.

I agree. Armadillos suck at crossing the road. Deers suck at it too. There are armadillos all over here at Hilton Head Island, SC.

You know who I think are great at crossing the road. Cats wait for a clearing in the road to cross and they run across the road, not walk

Why kill them? If they're migrating on their own, then they're not an invasive species. ...and other than digging holes, they're pretty harmless. Just don't try to handle them, because they may carry leprosy.

Doubt they will get to Michigan, but if they do, I have no problem with them. They don't kill chickens or ducks do they?

I leave the opossums alone, because they are great for ticks and don't bother my animals.
Stupid racoons are vicious, and have to be put down.

We had a lone armadillo sighted playing around at the local park in my home town in Nebraska a year or two ago. The whole town was up in arms about it, either drowning in the cuteness or freaking out about them carrying leprosy. It was probably the biggest thing that's happened in my home town of about 400 people in at least a decade. Probably since one of the locals decided to try to rob the local credit union.

Or a lack of predation, better foraging for them in built up areas, release of them as pets, accidental transportation into other areas.

I'm in nowhere Missouri and there's probably 40 dead along the side of the road from my farm to town, about 15 miles. The biggest hazard I've found is the buzzards eating them take flight right in front of my truck as I pass. There's a lot of cattle around me so it's shoot on sight. Can't have the cattle breaking their legs in dillo holes.
