there are 393 million civillian owned firearms in the US. If guns were the problem, you would know.

I think i would have been terrified.

You correct all the same, it's not a terrorist attack.

Just another mad bastard on the rampage.

Which dont make it much better i suppose.

www.lbc.co.uk...

Absolutely horrendous.

RIP to all involved.

Will update as more info becomes available.

That's why people must have very little or zero access to knives, swords, blades, guns and firearms.

Banning knives will be rough on the UK restaurant industry...but British cuisine isn't that great to begin with.

This isn't funny.

no, it's tragic and if we as a global society took mental health care seriously, it's possible things like this might not happen as often. I hate innocent folks dying, but when the problem is this obvioius and everyone ignores it, it becomes comical in a sick twisted way.

Weird this happens mere days after the government announced plans to consider restricting the sale and transport of swords. Probably a coincidence but I can’t help but see the connection.

Shame it happened and knee jerk nanny staters will take full advantage of it.

Here is the thing, they are pretty much slashing funding to all sorts of mental health care programs across the board here in the UK.

They will fling the book at him.

Not that it will change much or turn back time.

I hope they do.

All I know is that if I'm walking down the street with my children and some lunatic charges us swinging a Claymore...I can take him down with my 9mm before he hurts my kids, myself, or anyone else.

I'm not making it about guns CarlLaFong.

If he had a gun i imagine he would simply have caused more carnage.

Suffice to say the majority of people here in the UK don't want guns on our streets any more than you wish to have yours taken away.

Different strokes for different folks.

...and I'm saying that if any of the victims (and the child's parent) were allowed to carry a gun...they wouldn't have been victims.

I can see what you are saying CarlLaFong.

Same as you can see what I'm saying.

Again different strokes for different folks.

As to victims, unfortunately, those will always exist, nature and the human condition being what it is.

There is no gun lobby here. It's not a thing here. It's not an issue for Brits.

Other than for shooting pheasants and clay pigeons I suppose.

Our culture is different.

So......I guess it's no surprise to Brits that the crooks and nutters kill people with swords and guns?

you are lucky. We don't have anything to slash. No mental health infrastructure to speak of. They use the cops to deal with them at the time, then we turn them loose and hope for the best. It's a winning strategy, if you don't like winning.

Most stabbings here involve young kids with knives killing other young kids. They should not be carrying knives. It's rife. Crooks and nutters, not so much.

Kitchen knives and nail clippers don't spit out multiple projectiles with a velocity of around 1,200 feet per second.

Our culture, our rules, our laws of the land.

Same as it is in your own nation i should imagine.

Anyhoo second page and i can see the thread headed into very familiar territory.

Can it just not be about guns please?

Agreed.

Guns and knives and swords arent the problem. People with mental illnesses are the problem.

Blanket banning on items/weapons doesn't solve the problem and in some stats. In fact, the UK has much higer rates of violent crime since banning handguns (www.gunfacts.info...)

Otherwise, ban cars, as people have used them to kill. Same with axes, baseball bats, sticks, rocks.

The thing that bothers me most is local politicians and MPs believe ticking the 'ban' box looks good and solves the problem - whereas investing time, money and resources in helping identify people with mental illnesses or problems, getting them the help they need would probably be a far better result.
