There’s been a mass stabbing many emergency services and police in attendance.

There are reports of machetes also being used to mail and stab people.

There’s suggestion of the bomb squad in attendance at Bondi Westfield.

There are reports of firearms being discharged, unknow if it is the police special operations group, or if it is a planned terror attack.

It’s too soon to tell if this is terrorist related or not.

This is as always terrible.

It’s on going right now, it’s just on 1800 local time here in Melbourne and Sydney.

The armed special ops team are searching the shopping mall for another perpetrator.

One perp has been shot dead, he was attacking a person with a machete when shot.

Police have confirmed a small child is among those injured , the perp was shot by police and is dead.

More now from the police conference, where police say a single unit officer who was nearby to the scene was the officer responsible for disarming and shooting the suspected attacker.

“She confronted the offender who had moved by this stage to level 5," Assistant commissioner Anthony Cooke tells reporters.

“As she continued to walk quickly behind him to catch up with him, he turned, faced her, raised a knife. She discharged a firearm, and that person is now deceased," he says.

Thankyou for the video. The police press conference sadly confirmed 5 dead.

I hope they don’t find more deceased.

Though I saw the footage of the perp, he looked pretty ill prepared, shorts and a t shirt, no backpack.

It looked like all he had was a long knife for hunting. I didn’t see a reported machete.

I am thinking either this has been badlybmisreported, or a false flag.

The question now is was he Australian or was this a terrorist attack , as you say he seemed ill-prepared so it's possible it was a random attack , I saw a report he left the building then returned.

Assistant Commissioner Anthony Cooke has said that the suspect entered the shopping centre at Bondi Junction at around 15:10 local time.

He then says that the suspect then "left the centre very shortly after" before returning at around 15:20 before continuing with the attack and moving through the centre.

Report of a local hero confronting the attacker on an escalator.

Eyewitness Rashdan Aqashah tells me he saw a man holding a pole confront the attacker on an escalator.

"I saw this one guy fighting with the killer. He was holding the pole, trying to throw a pole at the escalator," the 19-year-old tells me.

Aqashah, who was working in clothing store COS, says "everyone started running" when the attack began unfolding.

"I grabbed my manager to shut the store door. It was just in front of our store," he says.

"I’m not sure if the attacker grabbed the pole or not."

Looks like a single female police officer shot and killed the terrorist (that is what these people are). Well done to her as she almost certainly saved more lives from being lost.

The report I read said there was a woman that unlocked and lead shoppers to an exit out the back of the store.

The mother of the baby who was stabbed has died in hospital , her baby in currently in surgery.

The mother of a nine-month-old baby who has undergone surgery following the attack earlier today is among those who died, according to local media.

The Sydney Morning Herald has reported that the mother died from her injuries at hospital, while The Guardian Australia has said they've spoken with police sources who confirm that the mother was the sixth victim.

Police said earlier that the baby was undergoing treatment in surgery.
