I've had brothers, I've had lovers,
But I also had a horse.
I've conquered the beast, land and man,
But nothing compared to my horse.

Looking to the Sun there's just no fun,
If I cannot have my horse.
I'll wash away my pain as there's nothing to gain,
If I do not have my horse.

No sights to see to embolden me,
When there's just no horse.
No one can mend, I want it to end,
Because I've lost my horse.

There's just no fighting,
Or even lightning,
Left to inspire us.

Because today,
I've lost my way,
I miss Bucephalus.

Lets walk back home,
Over this bloodied dome,
Then free me to my horse.

If only I listened,
The sun once glistened,
When I had my horse.

Yet now he is gone,
No more gleeful songs,
The stud in the way... Of course.

The End

A little attempt at Greek tragedy although I've always found the history quite funny myself if I ignore all the death and destruction.

A man is only as great as his companions?

That’s marvellous, Ray! It touches a chord because of my fondness for horses.

My wife's grandfather worked for Cinecittà Film Studios as a horse master/stuntman during the Golden Age of cinema. He lived and breathed horses and transmitted that passion to me in the short time I knew him and through my wife’s tales.

The Greek angle rounds off the poem nicely.

I used to be scared of them as a kid, nothing but power physically but I've came to understand their timidness... Ray is a female deer in auld Scottish, timid. I like horses

Yeah I wanted to touch on how Alexander tamed his horse but also pissed off a famous philosopher who went looking for a man. I can only imagine that played on his mind towards the end. Quite fitting I thought.

Very well done.

Should be the epilogue for "In Want of a Nail".

Thank you for crafting this.

I enjoyed it.

This is great! A horse won’t talk back but a lover can bite!

Thanks Ray, that's a bit of trivia I didn't know.

If you like horses then you may enjoy a story I wrote about them. I had to do a lot of research to get everything factually correct. I came to appreciate them even more.
