Biden says the Federal Govt is going to foot the entire cost of rebuilding the Francis Scott Key bridge. Now, call me crazy, but don't those shipping companies carry insurance for accidents like this ? The only reason I can possibly think of for this is because it's somehow the American citizens fault, so I'm gonna need to know.....which one of you was driving ?

WASHINGTON — President Joe Biden said he wants the federal government to pay to rebuild the Baltimore bridge that collapsed early Tuesday after a large cargo ship sailed straight into one of the bridge's support pillars.

"We’re going to work with our partners in Congress to make sure the state gets the support it needs. It’s my intention that the federal government will pay for the entire cost of reconstructing that bridge, and I expect the Congress to support my effort," Biden said in brief remarks from the White House before he left for North Carolina.

It's a drop in the bucket compared to what we're giving Ukraine.

"President Biden promised the federal government would step in to cover costs to rebuild the Baltimore bridge that collapsed when a container ship slammed into it March 26, but ultimately, it will likely be a pool of reinsurance funds that bears the brunt of costs when everything is sorted out years from now, insurance specialists say."

The bridge carried highway I-695 which--being an interstate highway--is part of the federally funded national highway system, and was funded by Congress. So I suppose that the federal government will have to take responsibility for rebuilding it, but it looks like they will be mostly reimbursed.

It looks like Biden is trying to take credit for a chicken in every pot in an election year, while knowing that someone else will be paying for the chickens.

He’s buying more votes.

To hell with what the taxpayers have to say about it.
It’s just part of his BAMN campaign from the basement, again.

Ooooh. I see a potential large sum of money coming from the shipping company to support Biden's campaign. Maybe even a Job for Hunter is in the making.

Yeah, it does sound like a political ploy. I read that or a similar article about five days ago and thought the same thing.

AP News

Cargo ship’s owner and manager seek to limit legal liability for deadly bridge disaster in Baltimore

The owner and manager of a cargo ship that rammed into Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge before the span collapsed last week filed a court petition Monday seeking to limit their legal liability for the deadly disaster.

The companies’ “limitation of liability” petition... ...for what could become one of the costliest catastrophes of its kind.

Singapore-based Grace Ocean Private Ltd. owns the Dali... Synergy Marine Pte Ltd., also based in Singapore, is the ship’s manager.

Their joint filing seeks to cap the companies’ liability at roughly $43.6 million.

That won't come close to covering all of the costs associated with this accident. Actual costs could eventually run into the billions.

They are claiming $44 million cap citing a 1851 Maritime law.

Section 3 of the 1851 Act states "the liability of the owner or owners of any ship or vessel ... shall in no case exceed the amount or value of the interest of such owner or owners respectively, in such ship or vessel, and her freight then pending".

Fortune

seeks to cap the companies’ liability at roughly $43.6 million. It estimates that the vessel itself is valued at up to $90 million and was owed over $1.1 million in income from freight. The estimate also deducts two major expenses: at least $28 million in repair costs and at least $19.5 million in salvage costs.

There you go. and Biden did it anyway.

With my FEMA experience, we will always foot the bill (1st)... because of the time/recovery, rebuilding needs and speed...we usually go after the Insurers after the ball is rolling.

They drag their feet (the companies)... So we proceed day-1. and fight with them later.

FEMA/ I.C.S
ADV Life Support

*Insurers begin with denial: Bridge was old, defective, our fault...sooooo. FEMA releases us all and $$$ immediately so we quickly respond.
