When I was young up until the time I was eight years old. I
dreaded going to bed at night. I wasn't just afraid of the dark,
I knew god damn well that monsters existed no matter what
my parents said. Call it an intuition that came to me around
the age of four.

At one point it got so bad that mom and dad considered I
may need a shrink. Then one day I came home from school
and was greeted by mom in the living room. She was watching
the Art Linkletter show and she told me to sit down and watch.
I was astonished by what I saw.

But from that day on my fear of the dark and monsters began to
subside. The turmoil in my head from being told something by my
parents I knew was wrong? I have no doubt now was my biggest
problem. So being vindicated that day in 1967 relieved the stress
of wondering what was wrong with me.

That was the day of the first time the Patterson Gimlin film was
ever shown to the world. After sitting there and watching I looked
up at my mother and said, "see mom I told you monsters were real".
And to hear her say "Yes I guess you were right but you don't have to
be afraid of them now. Because now I know". That was the key to all
my fears. I no longer fear anything. I had a great Mom. The End

In memory of Alice

A touching story.

I can relate, but l learnt to embrace the monsters, sometimes they are not so bad.

I found Maurice Sendaks kids book "where the wild things are" to be a good guide on how to put them monsters into their spot.

I used to date a girl called Alice long ago , found out years ago that she found out she had cancer and jumped to her death from a bridge
that song used to drive her nuts , looking back I think I must have been one of the first people in the UK with a Kevin bloody Wilson tape back in the 80s as everyone wanted a copy

I lost mom and dad to a car crash on friday the 13th 1983.
They weren't at fault so I know your pain well. I was just
22 and I have so many questions now I never got a chance to
ask them. It's a tuff ass row to hoe but maybe someday.

I'm sorry for your Alice and who could ever blame her for
taking the less painful way out. I've been lucky at 65 I'm
healthy as a horse. But I've seen a lot of people go with
cancer, yet still can only try to imagine. But I know it
isn't pretty.

Lol, thanks, Astro. However, in my younger years you would have probably thought I was the monster; I walk a fine line.

I'm sorry to hear of your tragic loss.

I believe in my heart that they watch over you from afar, you just have to fine tune your radar to pick up their angelic voices.

Take care

it is only when our health goes that we realise how lucky we were when we were younger . My 50 miles hikes with the dog some weekends are a distant memory now Astro , I am 58 but after all my heart attacks cannot plan even a hour ahead now or walk more than a few miles at best but at least I am still here and can laugh about it somewhat.

I have seen a handful of people I know die with cancer in the last few years and all of them were quick , like real quick .

I talked to my friend David one Friday afternoon as he was heading to a doctors appointment and 2 days later he had passed at age 55 .

We really should be enjoying every day as if it is our last

My mugs are frozen and full of root beer, lol.

I don't like alcohols effects on my person, my father struggled with alcholism for many decades and I learned to distrust the stuff myself.

I rarely have a drink, except as a toast in good company.

I'm reminded of what Alice said about drinking alcohol one time.

"Why anyone would drink something that causes them to lose
control of themselves is beyond me."

Seems Taurus people are like that.

I'm always buying books for my grand daughters. I think I'll check Maurice out.

I bought an entire set of Tuttle Twins. lol

Thanks for the tip Terpene
