I'm sure she's a fine actress. The problem I have is gender swapping one of the most iconic characters in the Marvel universe. What's wrong with the source material? This is what I grew up on.

I'm tired of the Disney woke, girl power movement.

Marvel Comics has been woke since the beginning. Captain America, Antifa. Literally punching Nazi's in the face . X-Men mirrors the civil rights movement of the 60's. If you have a problem what Marvel is doing now. You were never a real fan.

In any case that's topic for another thread.

What we need to do is not prejudge the movie. Let's wait till it comes out and then judge for ourselves. Instead of labeling it as woke, though if you're a you already know Marvel is work, without even seeing it.

Shalla Bal is a silver surfer herald of Galactus in other Marvel universes. And clearly the MCU isn't exactly the main comic book universe. Even if they say it's Earth-616. It's not the comic timeline. So they can do whatever they want with the characters however they want.

Superhero fatigue is real and who wants to see Shalla-Bal? Norrin Radd is a very complex character that could breathe life into a dying cinematic universe. Excuse me, I meant to say panderverse.

I've been a fan of Marvel since I was a young child going back to the late 60's/early 70's.
Silver Surfer was one of my favourite characters, very deep and complex.

I don't like what Marvel are currently doing to their franchise.

If you were a comic book reader. It would be very hard to miss that Marvel was "woke", as they call it now. Real fans understand this.

The Galactus and Silver Surfer stories are deep and complex. Touching upon themes of Genocide, ethics, slavery/indentured servitude.

I understand that many do not like what they are doing now. But it's not without precedent.

I know exactly what the Silver Surfer stories were about.
Like I said, I really enjoyed them, even as a young kid I got the personal conflict Silver Surfer faced and the complexity of both his nature and the storylines.

Marvel can do what they want, I'm not disputing that.

My comment was more surrounding you telling me that I was never really a fan because I don't like what they are doing.

Oh no, they gender swapped a fictional character in a lackluster franchise. It's another opportunity to get mad at something stupid that has zero effect on your quality of life. Egad and gadzooks.

However in my response to you, as a fan. Then you would understand that Marvel has always been about being progressive. The MCU is following in that tradition. No one says that you have to like it. But as a fan I would expect you to understand. This is the way they have done things since the beginning. And they aren't stopping now.

I feel like the performance of such esteemed talents as Hailee, Florence, Iman Vellani, and Letitia have gone a long way toward establishing that female characters are also relevant in the CBM culture.

That's fine but the actors can only work with the material they are given and when films are more interested in pushing "The Message" than telling a compelling story audiences , it would seem , vote with their feet.

I feel sorry for the cinema chains who are the ones really suffering because of studios wokery and Virtue signalling.

I'm more than happy to see Hollywood crumble under the weight of debt these films are bringing them it will open the door for Independent film makers more interested in story than preaching.
