There are No Coincidences in Life Concerning Politics . It Is what it Is ..........

There's a bridge near me that gets raised to let barges and large vesels through; it's not unusual for a barge to colide with it, then it gets shut down for inspection. It only takes it off-line for about an hour, and in over 40 years no structural damage has ever put it out of comission. We don't get a lot of large ships that require raising the bridge, though; maybe 2-3 a month.

Good thing that one is a "bumper bridge" 😎

Sallisaw Oklahoma and Hwy 59 Bridge is in the middle of no where, Sallisaw has a population of 8,800. and the bridge is reopened.

U.S. Highway 59 at the Arkansas River south of Sallisaw has been reopened after being shut down due to a barge striking a bridge, according to the Oklahoma Department of Transportation.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol closed the roadway about 1:45 p.m. on Saturday after the barge hit the bridge. Sarah Stewart, Oklahoma Highway Patrol spokeswoman, said troopers diverted traffic away from the area until state Transportation Department engineers could inspect the bridge.

The highway was opened to traffic after engineers inspected the bridge and found it safe, the Transportation Department announced via the X social media platform formerly known as Twitter.

just what was supposed to be accomplished by destroying this bridge. only 8,800 people, in the middle of no where.
nothing that i can find of any great significance within a 100 miles.well i should say about a 160 miles or better.

I suppose that their attention was focused on navigation technology and nobody was actually using their eyes to observe what was going on. Technology can distract people.

Or it was just human error because people were not thinking appropriately. I have seen scuff marks in the past on the Houghton Hancock bridge when riding on a boat under it. Something had hit the concrete pillars, probably a small boat or small barge. There are changing currents in the Portage Canal, pretty strong currents too, and they switch direction pretty often...the bobber is going one way and the current changes and it goes the other way when fishing at the old naval reserve dock. Probably something to do with tidal movement in that canal. Most of the scuff marks and crumbled concrete are from people with motor boats that are going under it often, or sail boats which are harder to maneuver. When something hits it they usually go inspect to see if there is any damage...
