The incident, shown live during the midday newscast, was a rare off-script moment for China’s tightly controlled state media. Beijing regards media as propaganda tools and regularly issues directives about topics that are off-limits for coverage.

Foreign journalists are also often followed by plain-clothes police, especially when reporting from areas considered sensitive by the Chinese government, such as the western region of Xinjiang.

Ministry of Truth

There it is, a rare and unusually unseen media manipulation.

Wake up before free press is extinct.

Take back the free press and media.

Especially multi media.

Many legacy news agencies push the lies the government wants you to believe....IE the Hunter Biden lap top is just Russian propaganda among something they pushed for over a year not to mention two years of Russia Russia every time Trump was mentioned by the Democrats...

There are some truth speakers but not like there used to be IMO especially with MSN.

A long time ago Advisor I wrote in ATS about how the media have become a monopoly when it became conglomerates.

Those that pays the bills and the advertisement is the ones that made decisions of what the news media will or not cover in their sites.

Is always about the money just like in Politics.

China will keep their hold on the state media as long as they can, but they are already manipulating US media that is for sure, Tic Tok is one of their mediums.

US has been telling that China is influencing with media the entire world, but then again does it US does the same thing?

Did not the America government use the FBI to manipulate the nations flow of information during the pandemic and trying to cover up the bidens crime family? using social media as their headquarters for disinformation.

And now congress approve a bill that can take out Tik Tok and any media that they seem to be influence by foreign groups.

Many in congress with a brain call it a "Trojan horse" when the government is giving itself move power over media channels under the banner of just for foreign influenced channels.

Could you elaborate on why you think it's rare and unusual? Or unseen? Cause I keep seeing it.

The more technical term would be malinformation. OP probably thinks China is spilling the beans to manipulate people into using their head?

Which is kinda funny, because we don't do that on this site anymore. You just throw up something from FOX News instead, and pretend to know it all, because this is how freedom works now.

Maybe some people feel the need to "protect" the people from certain types of information (they don't agree with or not want anyone else to agree with, or even be confronted with and think about).

The true purpose of censorship (when it's not used to block spam or extremely foul language; which you can automize nowadays and don't need special 'agents' 'watching' for to bless with their approval or condemn with their disapproval, at their own discretion, as per their own preferences or desires* what information they want to see out there and what not, what is allowed to be said and what isn't in their eyes and interpretation of the rules).

*: “For there will be a period of time when they will not put up with the wholesome* [Or “healthful; beneficial.”] teaching, but according to their own desires, they will surround themselves with teachers to have their ears tickled.* [Or “to tell them what they want to hear.”] They will turn away from listening to the truth and give attention to false stories.” (2 Timothy 4:3,4)

The internet is a medium for information too, i.e. it falls in the category "media" as used in the term "media manipulation". In the words of ADVISOR:

Wake up before free press is extinct.

Take back the free press and media.

Especially multi media.

A nice sentiment. Easy to agree with. Censorship is quite the blight in a supposedly free and open society indeed.

Where is this "free press and media" though? I do see the other thing a lot (control over the information that reaches the people and what won't).

Who is free to look for answers in the first place? There's always someone catering to sponsors for advertisement contracts since the work comes with a paycheck people rely on to pay the bills.
Which is why I believe critical sociology has a few answers to offer, well hidden in the ivory towers of our scientific communities.

Four recent books discuss the relationship between capitalism and the media with a different emphasis. Artz places this emphasis on the entertainment industry, Fuchs and Mosco examine the political economy of the media, while Mirrlees discusses the US culture industry and Syvertsen outlines media resistance. Lee Artz’s Global Entertainment Media: A Critical Introduction is a provocative albeit thoughtful and critical book. It contains insightful elucidations of often rather difficult concepts about the success of the global media industry in keeping capitalism running. The book investigates the crucial role the worldwide entertainment media is playing in global capitalism. It also examines the influence of this industry on how we perceive ideas (e.g. ideologies) and how all this sustains and supports global consumer capitalism. Overall, the book provides a critical framework for media-based “world culture” – though such a “world culture” is skilfully mixed with traces of local culture and sold to us under the heading of “cultural diversity”. Under global media, world culture no longer evolves out of a local culture. Instead, much of our “culture” is shaped by corporate mass media which Artz calls TNMCs – Transnational Media Corporations.
These TNMCs are increasingly capable of shaping and even defining global class relations while simultaneously making them invisible. Beyond that, media practices around the world make even the poor believe that they are part of a global “classless consumer society”. Artz has selected one of the dominant forms of global entertainment – action movies – as the key signifier of the entertainment industry’s ideological power. Beyond that the book also illustrates how corporate mass media shape the relations between government policies, media structures, public access to media, media content, and how human beings are made to play a supportive part inside these arrangements.[...]
