House Dem tells mother of fentanyl victim she lacks 'background to understand' border chief's impeachment

Rep. Dan Goldman, D-N.Y., told a mother who lost her daughter to fentanyl that she was being "used" by Republicans during a House Homeland Security hearing on Thursday.

Goldman's remarks to Josephine Dunn, whose 26-year-old daughter Ashley lost her life to fentanyl-laced pills, came during the committee's hearing titled "Voices for the Victims: The Heartbreaking Reality of the Mayorkas Border Crisis."

"Obviously, given what your experience has been, you don't have the background to understand what a high crime and misdemeanor is and how it relates to this," he added in his remarks to Dunn.

During the hearing, Dunn grew visibly frustrated with Goldman as he attempted to question her.

"You would agree, would you not, that it would help to stop the fentanyl trade and fentanyl trafficking from coming into this country if we had more law enforcement officers at the border and more resources and technology to stop the fentanyl from coming in?" he asked Dunn. "Do you agree with that?"

Dunn rejected Goldman's premise, saying "Border Patrol is now being used to make sandwiches and to screen people and let them into our country. So I disagree with you."

Moments later, Dunn added: "I would like the border patrol to be able to do the job that they were hired to do. Every border patrol officer that I have spoken to has told me that their hands are tied by this administration and Mr. Mayorkas. I’ve been to the border, sir, have you?"

Goldman responded that he was the one asking the questions at the hearing.

Given the contempt that many congressmen have for the people they are supposed to be serving; I propose a new means of revenue generation in this country.

We should set up a nationwide lottery system were for the price of a lot you can be randomly chosen to have a congressional hearing were you are in complete control of the questioning and proceedings.

The lottery winner would have several minutes to question each congressmen; kind of the reverse of a normal congressional hearing. Members of congress would be sworn to provide accurate answers to the questioning and while they can refuse to answer a question they will still have to do it publicly and be subject to follow up questions.

To generate the most revenue many different lottery winnings could be set up. "Q&A with a subcommittee", "Q&A with the house speaker", "Q&A with Senate Minority Leader" and so forth, the possibilities are endless. It can even be expanded to the Executive Branch; "Q&A with the president".

But I am not sure the relevance Chinese Fentanyl corridors have to this situation. The woman was there to discuss how her family has been impacted by Fentanyl.

Dunn had been invited by Republicans to take part in the hearing and share the story of how she lost her daughter to fentanyl

The Congressmen told the woman she lacked the background to understand the subject... again the subject being:

the story of how she lost her daughter to fentanyl

I do agree the fentanyl problem needs to be comprehensively attacked to stop the flow of this drug into the country.

That doesn't negate the fact that this congressmen was acting like a complete douche in his zeal to defend the president and Mayorkas.

Even though China does ship more in, the problem has to be solved, stop it at the border and stop it coming in from China. We would not have the problem with fentanyl coming in from China if we made more of the things we need and sell ourselves here in America. There are lots of illegal drugs coming across the border through Mexico.

So despite the deflection about fentanyl coming from China, when the subject is the lack of border control, where does Goldman get any right to talk to anyone like that? Projecting from how his party operates? IF the border was secure quite a few of our problems would diminish scope. But no, can't have that.
