Texas authorities have begun arresting migrants at a public park near the US-Mexico border, official says

Texas authorities arrested migrants at Shelby Park in Eagle Pass, Texas, late Wednesday evening and charged them with criminal trespassing, marking the first arrests of migrants since the state took control of the area at the US-Mexico border last week, an official said.

The arrests were announced by Lt. Chris Olivarez at the Texas Department of Public Safety on social media, where he also posted videos on X showing migrants being handcuffed and taken away by authorities.

Single adult migrant men and women were taken into state custody, while migrant families and children were transferred to US Border Patrol, Olivarez said.

“The State of #Texas will maintain a proactive posture in curbing illegal border crossings between the ports of entry,” Olivarez wrote on X.

Migrants arrested for criminal trespassing first face the state charge before they are transferred to US Border Patrol officials, Olivarez said. The arrests took place at Shelby Park and private lands where the landowner granted the state authority to make arrests, Olivarez explained.

In the mean time Liberal groups are mobilizing with the aim of not only stopping the occupation of Shelby Park by Texas; but also bring criminal murder charges against Governor Greg Abbott for the murder of three migrants (Mom and two children) that the Biden Administration accused Texas of this passed weekend.

The Legalization for All (L4A) network denounces the latest actions by the state of Texas at the Eagle Pass/U.S. border. The Texas National Guard, under the direction of Republican Governor Greg Abbott, began an occupation on January 10, 2024 of 47 acres at a public place of gathering — Shelby Park. These actions have led to injury and death of at least three immigrants attempting to cross into the U.S. at Shelby Park. The three died from drowning and Border Patrol agents who were attempting to help them were blocked by the National Guard.

For these heinous crimes, we demand:

*The Texas National Guard be removed IMMEDIATELY from Shelby Park and that all lethal weapons — like the concertina barbed wire also be removed

*Charges be placed on all individuals whose actions at the border have led to the deaths of at least three people, attempting to cross the border

*Governor Abbott MUST GO

*STOP plans to continue building the border wall

Governor Greg Abbott and the Texas National Guard’s actions for the past year have resulted in the murder and maiming of people who have every right to a safe passage. With this being a deadly military tactic within U.S. public bounds, and countless escalation tactics under Operation Lone Star, the L4A demands the removal of Greg Abbott as well as criminal charges against him no less than first degree murder, the removal of all lethal barriers and an end to the building of the border wall.

Join this pertinent denouncing of military occupation by the Texas National Guard, and demand they stop the killing of refugees at the Eagle Pass/U.S. Border.

I hope to see Texas continue to enforce its constitutional rights to defend its territory from illegal aliens seeking to enter, well, illegally. The Biden administration is criminal, and it's highly ironic (& a source of mild amusement) that democratic 'sanctuary cities' are complaining that Texas is sending the immigrants to them. Despite the fact that they are obviously set up with the intention of receiving & processing such migrants. Laughable.

Hopefully there will be no actual conflict, but I expect that Texas will stand firm & Biden will have to back down rather than risk civil war. It's a perfect setup if that is his actual intention in leaving the borders open & undefended, to spark a conflict between the feds & the states. That new movie coming out soon has Texas allied with California (which is ridiculous, and bad screenwriting - Tex & Cali have nothing in common) - if they had the alliance between Texas & Florida they would have been somewhat more accurate.

The Constitution places the duty of border protection solely in the hands of the federal government.

And when they fail in their duty, each State has the lawful power and duty to protect their Citizens and borders themselves.

Actually no. First problem with that statement is the Federal Govt. may be available but it's not doing the job.

Also once Texas declares the invasion emergency Texas becomes the highest power in the state of Texas for the duration of the emergency. The Federal government all branches get to pound sand until Texas says the emergency is complete. Only way to overturn said emergency would be the passage of a Constitutional amendment.

And if Biden gave orders to the contrary the Armed Forces of the Govt would tell him they serve the Constitution. And his orders to the contrary are unlawful for the duration of the emergency.

Not to mention the full scale revolt that would happen if the Feds tried to stop Texas. And there's more than a few people with guns in Texas.

It never fails to amaze me how the Fed is supposed to represent the American people, but continues to represent everyone but the American people. To that end the Fed continues to make things up as they go along to support their powers and views in opposition to Texas trying to gaslight Americans to believe the Fed has powers they clearly don't have as per the US Constitution. God bless Texas for standing their ground protecting their state, themselves, and the country as best they can and those who have stood with them.
